[deleted post]Perhaps. Yet c. 2 billion would disagree with you. And manufacturers need to take that big chunk of the market into account.

This is great news. I do see two potential issues here, however.
      1. Security vulnerabilities and 2. An environment compelling enough to drive migration. In the end, this may be a Huawei exclusive OS like the iOS is for iPhone.

Open source. That's good. Hoping it succeeds. We need an alternative to that American spyware

Huawei is not a country owned company, you can't accept the fact the country helps the growth of the company on international level, FYI facebook, google and IOS also getting your data and stored on cloud there' is no difference at all that's what you call security features but time to time they gather your data without your consent at all...

War begins. The mistake of Windows Phone is that its license to use is not free. Tizen OS, the application store is very quiet, like a funeral. At this time Google's opportunity is to send a messenger to Huawei to at least use the Google search engine. Seduce her, man! Look into her eyes, gently hold her hand while saying, "will u use me?" If not then a lot of money will fly away.

Really nice see the public born of a new alternative. I'll test it when available for their flagships phones and other devices. If its more efficient and take less resources without loose compatibility and has good developers tools as it seems, it'd remain in my phones.

The best will be if it could be installed third party devices and phones. Imagine an Harmony OS installed in a Samsung S11 beating Android performance ^^ That would be superb!

This is a complete Failure but aurora OS have a future

some nice comments and some nasty ones. proof that no one can really please everyone. still, one things remains, that china is a rather large smartphone market to begin with. so there's that.

Finally competition to Android, which is more than welcome.

However the standard toolchains need to be updated seamlessly to compile for HarmonyOS.

Then on top of that, Huawei needs a globally launhced webstore that supports all the major apps that normal people use: whatsapp. youtube, instagram, snapchat, facebook, local banking, transit and other apps.

AND Huawei needs to offer replacements for:
                              - youtube
                              - gmail
                              - google maps
If google doesn't compile their apps for the new OS and/or IF the HarmonyOS can't run the Google play store versions directly.

It's a big list of IFs, I wish Huawei good luck.

Apart from that China is also the world's largest smartphone market so if they can convince the majority of their population to use the Harmony OS it will provide a solid foothold for the development of their operating system.

???, 09 Aug 2019I don't think this will this will end android, bigger more ... morePlease don’t Mix real OSs from custom builds. Also Symbian isn’t a new OS and it’s been rather popular at its time. Don’t confuse past technology with current. When a company fails to move forward things doe out like PalmOS (webOS) or Symbian OS.

As it stands most other mentioned are Android based they aren’t “from scratch” it’s the same deal as Linux distributions based of Ubuntu or Debian stable, this doesn’t make it a new OS as such Cyogen or Amazon custom OS builds do not count as full pledged OSs.

Microsoft failed because its Microsoft and acted rather idiotically with the updates. I remember getting a Lumia it wasn’t bad but being stuck at 7.5 with no easy way to go to 8 and 10.
