LG Superfan, 10 Aug 2019Why quad bayer why not octa bayer? 27MP will kill storage a... moreThe only reason you want to use the highest MP (108MP in this case) is to take a photo at its real full res. When it comes to Quad Bayer pixel binning, it is advisable to keep at its lower resolution. Even the photos of Huawei P30 Pro shot at 40MP looks absolutely crap compared to the same photo shot at 10MP.

So the 108MP under Quad Bayer pixel binning technique will give a 27MP, how about the micron pixel count? Looking at 48MP and 64MP camera using the same technique, the micron pixel count doubles from 0.8 to 1.6. How much the 108MP one would be?

The Quad-Bayer color filter array was initially introduced by Sony to cater to the high-resolution security camera market, which is very lucrative.
In Low-light situations, many camera systems would use multi-frame photography to reduce noise or capture at multiple exposures. However, this may also introduce ghosting when objects are moving, which unfortunately degrades the image quality of security video footage.
The Quad-Bayer pixel structure enables having two exposures within a group of four pixels, thus eliminating almost all the ghosting issues. This is called the Quad Bayer HDR Mode.
Quad-Bayer sensors need to have a very high resolution because they essentially have each pair of pixels within a quad do sensing with different parameters, thus reducing the effective resolution by 4X.
This is typically why Quad Bayer cameras often use a default mode of 10MP or 12MP and not 40MP or 48MP.

Anonymous, 10 Aug 2019You have no idea what are you talking about. This is pixel ... moreQuadbayer cant group 9 pixels.
If it could, it would not be called Quad or Tetra.
What would be the point of increasing resolution to end up with 12MP again?
The 64 doing 16 is to give more than 12 MP.
This is not like LG G7 super bright mode 5MP..

LG Superfan, 10 Aug 2019But 4x4 is possible so why not108.000.000MP / 16 = 6,75 MP
6,75MP is low even for fromt cam.
Also prevents the camera from doing 4K.

AnonD-706668, 10 Aug 2019What are you saying ! If the put 27mp in 1/1.7” camera sens... moreWith current technologies, pixel size does not matter anymore.
There are cameras with 42MP with better low light skills than older 12MP ones.
There are APSC with bigger pixels than few Full Frames, still cant match them.
Low light performance is about settings.
No matter if your phone has 1,55 micron. If you force it to use ISO2000 and fast shutter, photos will be beyond useless. Does not matter how big your pixels are if they dont have time enough to catch light.

LG Superfan, 10 Aug 2019But 4x4 is possible so why notVery likely that this is 3x3 bayer, not 2x2 or 4x4. 12MP final photos.

Anonymous, 10 Aug 2019Probably 1/1.7" What are you saying ! If the put 27mp in 1/1.7” camera sensor...the size of each pixel to become less than 1.40 microns...that means bad low light performance....

Actually if it's octa cell and there is 128mp sensor , the binned size would be 8 mpx , which for me would give 2.0 2.2 microns , something we have seen in htc devices . this would be beast for mid phones
