You can drop down notification screen from anywhere on the screen, you can setup wif, bt and others to show up on the edge of the screen so your hand doesn't have to travel. But when it comes to apps that's completely Android Design Guide fault, they didn't adjusted it to tall screens hence all the apps have ridiculous footers and headers that require finger travel.
I wouldn't call them useless because Sony's built quality is the best in Android business, easily noticeable as soon you grab it with your hand. Heads above Samsung and Huawei who always feel plasticky.

I wanna talk smack but did you know your Xperia compact phones are a bit more than 6.3 inches tall? I'm sure the Xperia 2 has the same footprint as the old compact phones. 6.1 screen not equal to body.
