08 October 2019
OEMs will not get Google Mobile Services if they have an older OS version after that day.

They should provide upgrade across all old phones, but i think its too hard.

TL;DR Just stick with Android One.

Great move. Only thing I can't decide is: buy one year old android one phone now or buy new phone in 2020.

Great decision. All the OEMs should deliver updated OS to every phone within one month of released of latest android version.

That's a good thing actually. Today you can find users with Android as old as 4 etc. It will be great to globalize the users under Android 10. All apps will behave more efficiently for all users.

The ultimatum of Project Treble. Starting with Oreo, companies now found it easier to ship with the latest OS than what, Nougat v7.0? I'm glad that Android is now getting less fragmented than before but it will be fragmented when Harmony OS will fight against Fuchsia in the future (successor to Android).

Anna, 08 Oct 2019Google officially support Android OS for 3 years (2 year OS... moreYours is a good idea, but it will only lead to OEMs not supporting phones (just like they do now) and users forced to buy a new device every 2-3 years (just like they do now). Currently, smart users who don't load nonsensical apps and maintain their phones for 4-5 years at least have the option that at least their individual apps get updated through the Playstore. My SD435 phone costing $120 in 2016 still works smoothly, but its security patch is a year old. But the apps are regularly updated and (hopefully) secure.

There needs to be universal legislation that makes it mandatory for OEMs to release security patches for infinity. Technically, an over-the-air OS update may need a lot of work from OEMs and Google, but security patches should be simple and will keep devices relevant for longer for those who choose not to keep upgrading or not to use Apple.

                        Then what will Samsung do?

Google officially support Android OS for 3 years (2 year OS updates and additional year of Security updates). Not sure, why they cannot update Android OS directly bypassing OEMs just like Windows OS from MS. Google should actually stop support (updates) for Apps and games in Play Store for phones with 3 year old OS. This will force OEMs to provide OS updates to all their phones on regular basis or users may need to change their phone with supported OS for updates. Users will stop buying phones from OEMs which are not updating their handsets.
