Why do they put ugly design in the first place. Thick bump (as long as paid by image quality) won't be an issue if they use better design. I hate the design even before knowing how thick those bumps.

Completely wrong. The patents are only about periscope cameras with large aperture diameters with a field of view of more(!) than 50mm. The bump wouldn't be smaller. The bump would be smaller than a smartphone ≈5x tele camera that doesn't (!) use the periscope technique. So instead of maybe a 1cm camera bump.

They asked a USA patent ASAP of the chinese periscope camera system XD They don't have enough with the bans.
Sure that someone in USA is now busy cloning the supersonic chinese UAVs showed in the chinese national parade too.
