Samsung announces Exynos 990 with 120Hz display support

    Anonymous, 24 Oct 2019it makes me wonder why the opted to use an A76 when an A77 ... moreThe custom cluster cores are supposed to be the equivalent of A77 in terms of power, but since it's custom, it could either be more or less powerful than the A77.
    The A76 cores, however, are only for sustained high performance tasks, meaning they don't have to be the most powerful cores to do their duties, as the custom cluster cores would handle the heaviest loads. It also improves the efficiency of the chip since the mid-leven performance cores are weaker overall.
    Take this, if there's a certain task where the custom CPUs would be way too much for it, but the A55 CPUs won't be enough, then the A76 cores are there to do it.
    4 extremely high performance cores would lead to thermal throttling, and may even cause damage to the hardware.

      I don't get why use A76 when they've used A77 in 980?
      Samsung's really needs to design their own fully custom CPU block to compete with Apple (big and small custom cores).
      The new G77 is another leap forward for ARM in terms of graphics, as the core count gets smaller but performance and efficiency are on the up to deliver much better sustained performance.
      The biggest change for Samsung will come in 2021's Exynos where they will implement AMD's GPU licensed tech.

        Finally DDR5 is coming

          disappointment in abundant
          mediocrity at it's best from samsung
          just integrate 4 cortex a77 & 4 cortex a55
          just like qualcomm & huawei would do
          but samsung is disappointing

            it makes me wonder why the opted to use an A76 when an A77 is available... is it because their next gen mongoose is too big to accommodate a dual A77?

              2 - Poor performing Custom core
              2 - outdated Cortex A76 cores
              4 - efficiency core

              Welcome to subpar inferior EXYNOS soc
              Samsung will force these into their device for unfortunate market's
              like Europe India

                Wonder for what good will be 120Hz support if we dont have even 60Hz games.
                Maybe for some android TV should be nice to have this but for a cell phone i dont see much use.

                  Well u Can actually feel its a Awsome Cpu
                  But again price's are gonna be too High
                  Thnx god SD 865 will also have 7nm Euv from Samsung
                  And WE Can count at company's liké Xiaomi Oppo realme and Asus to get some affordable price's for all 600$ better then 1100$
