Flashback: Sony Ericsson Xperia Play loses the game

I have an android and I use both myboy and epsxe emulators for Gameboy and playstation games.
Sometimes I use the PS4 controller, sometimes I don't. I take it with me on trips and such though to kill some time with gaming. Nothing beats playing playstation games with a playstation controller in the hands.
Maybe Sony failed with the Xperia Play, but with the emulators now letting you use the full resolution of your display, letting you play any game you want if you download it, I say using epsxe on a nowadays phone with a PS4 controller is the way to go.
You can play using the touchscreen as well. But that takes a lot of practice.

ZolaIII, 28 Oct 2019Well today Super Led is just a regular Led, today IGZO it a... moreTrue, however IGZO displays were fairly experimental/new when talking about the year of 2011. And even if past that, there are issues of mass production and price.
I don't think the future of LCD is IGZO, I think the future of LCD is to maintain its quality (eg iPhone 8 Plus) but offer it at a really cheap price for budget phones and devices to take advantage of. The future of OLED is to stick to AMOLED and perhaps get faster (120Hz) with ActiveSync/FreeSync, get even more dense 4K resolution (VR, phones, laptops, AiO PC), and reduce power draw (same battery life on 4K as 1440p).
The successor to these will be a OLED made with "Synthetic Diodes" instead of "Organic diodes". That way it can permanently solve the issue of burn-in, reduced accuracy, reduced contrast, reduced brightness, etc etc the current disadvantages of OLED. Then it might be able to further boost brightness, contrast and accuracy. Maybe even be more power efficient. Currently LG and Samsung are testing prototypes of these in their R&D Labs, and basically they are looking at the viability of it (durability, cost/profit margin, mass-produceability).
Me?
I think the next trillion dollar invention are holograms. Like actual floating lasers as seen on sci-fi shows. Someone that could invent that, reduce its power draw, and miniaturise it will win the market. People will ditch their superphones, and the next big thing will be dual-bracelets that act as a smartwatch and as a smartphone with a hologram in your palms. But I think I will age and die before that ever comes to fruition.

Kangal, 28 Oct 2019Ah, good question and here I'll answer it. First of all,... moreWell today Super Led is just a regular Led, today IGZO it a step up. It's sharper, better conducting & letting in more lite & potentially even longer lasting than Si ones. Still efficiency isn't much improved on constant FPS. Today's "Super Led's" would be Quantum Dot thin film layerd one's (no obvious reason not to be used on mobile also). Combining both (IGZO+QD) & developing more power efficient back lightning with let's say micro Led's based on Graphen would be a step up (couple steps up actually) but don't expect that from Sony.

Mediateksux, 27 Oct 2019What is with your super lcd obsession? Does it really save ... moreAh, good question and here I'll answer it.
First of all, I wrote "Super LCD" to differentiate it from the Cheap LCD screens of back in the day. These "Super" had much better brightness, contrast, viewing angles, no ghosting, and used little power compared to the cheap/older tech LCDs.
Secondly, why Super-LCD over AM-OLED?
The biggest reason why is longevity. So it's a great idea to combine an LCD screen with a Removable Battery, hence, a long lifetime for the device (and less eWaste). People want to buy their Sony Xperia Pro in 2011 and keep it for many years, maybe 5 years or longer. It's time to treat this portable as a console, and they are supposed to last long periods (see GBC, GBA, DS Lite, PSP, Switch). LCD screens don't degrade over time, however OLED does, it becomes dimmer, loses contrast, produces burn-in. I've practically owned every single Galaxy S-Note phones (except S6/Note5/7), and it does happen. And the older stuff isn't good for longevity. Things changed drastically with the latest technology in the S7 screens.
Thirdly, is LCD better than OLED?
Back in 2008 to 2013 it was. It was only with the Note 3/S5/Note 4 did OLED pose a decent competitor to LCDs. Just compare those devices' screens to say the iPhone 6+ screen. Things like brightness, accuracy, power draw were things OLED had to catch up to. OLED uses no power with clear-black images, very little with dark images, it uses less power with red images, uses more power with green images, and a lot more power with colours that are blue, orange, yellow, white. LCD's power draw is more consistent among the spectrum.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play > Sony PSP go
Sony really needs to release a successor even if it will always remain niche.

The Play had nothing to offer besides the D-pad. I opted for the Xperia Ray at the time because It was much more elegant. SE had too much competition in its own ranks (Xperia Mini / Mini Pro) Still a pity that I never had the play in my hand

2. Emulation is a goldmine.
3. Sd 855 - 7nm with a small cooling fan attached to it should have similar or better performance than the old chip in the switch.

Anonymous, 27 Oct 2019A new phone .... you cannot use a 2017 device as example.... moreActually I can use older phone if it has a better GPU then mentioned one's that come with S730 or G90T. It must be a Older Sony flagship in order that mentioned dualshock 4, PS4 remote play & cetera could work on Pie. A540 is a minimum for Dolphin & desired for PSPEE, MAME will work on anything. It's still far ahead G76 MP4 or A618 gegardin performance. If you want you can trow in XZ2 or XZ3 for 100~150$ extra but you get 30% more potent GPU. Anyway point whose to be able to do it for less money. I am not onto mobile gaming all that much, more on portable/mobile audio & again budget one.

The pieces of iphone 11 pro max are worth $490. Now imagine if it had 120Hz screen, 6000mAh, proper cooling system etc ...
Asus charges more than Zte and Xiaomi for this kind of phone because ROG is better and costs more to be made.

Sony mobile division is the king of fail. They have the opportunity to be the best with ideas (like this smartphone or in the photo area...) but no they're making mistakes again and again

Anonymous, 27 Oct 2019You cannot have this phone for this price. Unless you have... moreActually you can get close to it with better GPU with couple of compromis right now for far less money. Sony Xperia XZ1 costs new around 200$ add to that Dualshock 4 gamep (Good Chinese rip off 40$, original 60$), the phone stand for it 30$, USB C fast charging split cable with USB C OTG + headphone ports & dac k24 bit 96KHz (like Beseus L49) that attaches to the phone 10~20$ or BT APTx dongle/headphones for some 35~40$ (Sony EX750 BT with LDAC for 50$) & 20Ah power bank (Xiaomi 2C for instance) 30$ & you can play 16~20h non stop all for 320~400$ & all with quality components. It's 5.2" LCD still but very capable one with HDR and Triluminos & very bright. It's not elegant solution but it's there.

5.7"+ IG... moreYou cannot have this phone for this price.
Unless you have cheap components and few compromises like few brands do.
IGZO from Sharp is not only LCD 120Hz available.
JDi and LG already supplied 120Hz LCD before, to Sony.
Samsung has 120HZ oled for Sony and Asus.
