Samsung is shutting down its custom CPU core department, will use standard ARM cores

04 November 2019
The Exynos 9830 will likely be the first chipset to ditch the Mongoose custom cores.

Although, in mid range and lower, It's always laggy and gets worse after an year. So, anyway it's good. Not suprised since they are the only ones that actually majorly use it and little to no 3rd party using it.... In a sense its very costly since Qualcomm is dominating the market and maybe MediaTek targetting the low ends follows.

[deleted post]I couldnt find anandtech comparisons of midrangers.

I never called you a sheep, if you think you are one, no problem.

980 and sd855 are the best for comparison, in case you didnt know its the same fabrication process and same arm cores. For kirin 990 the process is newer, 7nm euv. Sd 855+ has the same process as 980 and sd855, 7nm finfet. Which is why 990 has minor improvements over even sd 855+, even though both use a76 cores. Qualcomm moves to euv only with sd865, but will also move to a77 cores.

You might also want to checkout the release cycles of qualcomm and hisilicon, they never release the flagship chip at the same time, there is always a gap of fre months. Hisilicon chips release coinicides with huawei flagship phone releases, and being the same company they release it as soon as they can. Qualcomm cant do that, please think a little. Learn more dont be a newb forever.

As long as it can be rooted, I personally don't care

Well, at least they'd still be implementing better DACs like cirrus logic in exynos, than Qualcomm's.

The last Oracle, 06 Nov 2019I am not even sure what the fuss is about. By merely concen... moreThe last 2 out of 4 mongoose cores held back a little for obvious reasons that are just a natural part of such a process. The first 2 were excelling. And the 5 and 6 ones with the new design would have seen great strides in development.

I am not even sure what the fuss is about. By merely concentrating on NPU, ISPs, DSP, GPU, RAM, Cache, Instructions, Modem and Clock speeds, Samsung can get much better SoCs. Also, interestingly, UFS memory on Samsung’s Note 10 Plus is significantly faster than that on OnePlus 7 Pro. So don't by soecs alone. The Mongoose cores were actually holding Samsung back.

Now I’m using S10 plus Exyons 9820 no throttling or overheating issue.

Anonymous, 05 Nov 2019Is about time they just can't compete with Qualcomm. How can they not compete with Qualcomm?
Out of 10 generations of Snapdragon vs Exynos the Exynos was overall better in about 8. Usually in terms of efficiency or cpu. Audio as well. Even gpu in a few generations.
                            Two main things.
Learning to develop larger more powerful custom cores clearly took a toll. But they would have gotten a more refined efficient design sooner rather than too much later. Not now.
And the last couple years have seen Qualcomm took great strides to efficiency and it shows. And usually has better gpu.

Though arms latest mali g77 gpu is any bit just as worthy now.

Anonymous, 06 Nov 2019You mean for two generations only. Its been 3 years this year i think, during that time and qulacomm was better and still is, and with 980 hisilicon also bested exynos.
