      frankly speaking microsoft does have a knack of preventing people from switching to other solutions this is an other example of that

        This is just more MS vaporware to prevent people from defecting to Apple. It's just smoke and mirrors to protect market share.

            windows can make as many eye candy they want. As long as the screens they make are getting smaller so is the number of business users. That was the market for windows. seems its targeting kids now.

              if anyone of is blown away by this idea think how you'll use the gesture sensing camera in dark. unless there is any way of lighting built in the device the idea looks absurd and even some powerful LED in place it sure will be a battery zapper along with an "always sensing" camera. to me its an uneconomical advancement.

                @GV

                a) Apparently you can't read a balance sheet properly.
                b) You're a biased IT geek (I work in IT too by the way)
                c) I'm not an iPhone fan, but hardware wise the iPhone is top-notch (what are you comparing it to???? A computer?)
                Give the iPhone/MAC OS the credit it deserves - and accept the flaws it has just like any other phone/OS.

                -------------------------------------------------------

                1) I never said that the iPhones marketing strategy was clever, I said APPLE is clever. Nearly every movie you watch features Apple products. Market segmentation is amazing.

                2) XP was the biggest ever, I love it. But VISTA has not conquered the world by storm. VISTA has absolutely nothing to convince companies to switch. A facelift doesn't justify AU$500 for an OS.

                VISTA did not generate $12 Billion in revenue, that was the total revenue achieved by all products and services. Don't forget XBOX and accessories contributed to this figure!

                Gosh, what's the point in arguing with you? You can't see beyond your desk - and to look at a matter objectively is too hard for you, isn't it?

                Forget it,

                  "You can't run MacOS on a PC without hacks, but you sure can run VISTA/XP side-by-side on a MacOS - flawlessly."

                  Would you prefer Microsoft lock their operating systems in the same way Apple does? Now THAT'S a way to foster competitiveness and creativity!! Vista is not a flop, it's just full of copyright-friendly gadgets.

                    One more add. The Apple mini thing is just a piece of crap. It's small, when a little piece of it breaks, the rest doesn't work. So I really wouldn't compare this, there's no market for this right now.

                    And your statement about with patches the Iphone is catching up other phones?... Dear lord, your intelligence is not present. Hardware wise, you know, camera, audio, and other external -not software related, the Iphone is a B I G loser.

                    Software wise it's a winner, but I rather have buggy and open software, than quality locked crap as Mac OSX.

                      Vista was a flop; dear god, you are clearly an idiot.

                      Vista has raised microsoft's profit by 12 billion dollar in just one quarter. Vista is catching in on XP, and Xp is the biggest OS ever to be sold. Don't need to tell me about it, I'm an IT'er.

                      Apple Iphone is not revolutionary. Apple is not an inventor. Microsoft isn't either. Around this time, nothing that apple or microsoft invented is genuine. Because everything they make/invent is a substitute of other products.

                      The iphone doesn't have perfect marketing strategies. They didn't reach their sales goals, by a long mile.

                        @Unknown - flexibility vs. jack-of-all-trades
                        ================================================

                        When we bought our Mac MINI for work I couldn't believe how SMALL the thing was - and that bluetooth, wireless, DVD -RW, Media Centre and WLAN/dial-up were already installed and ready to go.

                        You're right, Apple does have its own hardware to sell - but thanks to Intel we now have open doors to better compatibility.

                        You can't run MacOS on a PC without hacks, but you sure can run VISTA/XP side-by-side on a MacOS - flawlessly.

                        So who is adapting quicker now? Apple is not the market leader, but they don't want - or need to be. Their product is flexible and they have demonstrated this on the iPhone.

                        Sure, the iPhone wasn't nearly there compared to other phones, but with the latest software updates they are quickly catching up.

                        Apple is a Niche Product.
                        Apple deploys CLEVER marketing.
                        Apple's hardware is in tune with it's software (unlike PC's).
                        Apple can run Windows
                        Apple MAC computers CAN be upgraded (contrary to common belief).
                        Apple DOESN'T want MAC OS to run on ANY machine/PC - this would compromise its efficiency and quality.

                        Apple has got the latest idea's and features, and Microsoft is trying to play catch-up.

                        VISTA was and is a flop. So are many other products of Microsoft.

                            The problem with Windows Mobile right from the start is Microsoft's insistence that it has to behave just like the Windows OS interface on our desktops - not! For years, users have to make do with slow, kludgy, and downright unfriendly OS for the PDA until Apple showed the world what a handheld interface should be like. Frankly, WM7 is just too little, too late.

                                  windows are going a downward spiral. I've used them for several years. the screens keep getting smaller and smaller. look at apple for instance. they have the common sense to realize that big screens are better. I AM switching off from windows to apple. windows are $tupid. ever tried opening ebay on a 2.8inch screen? it is S U I C I D E

                                    Look lets be realistic here, Apple and its Macs and Iphone is doing a very good job in technology, in fact they had contribute so much to technology world.

                                    They are the one who introduce UI in OS while all Windows User stuck with DOS, they are the one who introduced Mouse for easy naviation, they even introduced clickwheel which now been using by mostly all MP3players manufacturers. Now they reinvent the meaning of touchscreen via Iphone Multitouch. But im asking u, how come such trendsetter company not even 1/20 to Microsoft in terms of cash? Its bcoz Apple is too idealistic, i mean what good for company to bcome a trendsetter (Multitouch, OS X, etc) n what good to create revolutionary products if ur product is limited to certain people? How many of u used OS X? Few, i guess bcoz it only had few 3rd party software.

                                    And how many of u got iphone in their hands? Tiny i guess in term of sales w/ Nokia or even Sony. Why , bcoz Apple just too idealist (i dont understand Apple)can u imagine if Apple release their Iphone worlwide without bothering customer with all their service contract? I bet today Iphone will sold out 10 millions only few months after released. Why cant they catch the moment?

                                    Now the way i see, Apple is loosing the war in mobile phone market, see, Nokia will have its touchsreen in end 2008, Google Android will hit market mid '08, and now Microsoft is catching up with WM 7...Man, Apple is gonna hv hard time for sure, u dont believe it? Just wait and u'll see that im right........

                                      I think if its the cam being used, its a very poor solution and will not be able to compete with the iphone for the simple fact that its gonna waste the hell outta the battery life. And as well as that as GSM has already said "How will this work in an enviroment lacking a source of light" I think i can answer that one scientifically "It fecking won't!" The concept is fantastic tho, theres no doubting that, but i think that they should just stick to an accelerometer, makes things a lot easier for the consumer and saves us charging the phone as much ;)

                                        WM6 for smartphone does not even have copy/paste, yet this OS was originally released 12 years ago (1996) as WinCE. Why should we give Microsloth more time? Do they need more time to Xerox copy the Apple blueprints?
