geek-a-contra, 15 Nov 2019250 eur is a lot of money for hundreds of millions in india... moreAdditionally, the minimum cost of 5G service is ¥129/month, and €250 = ¥1936. Will this sort of customers use 15 months charge to buy a phone? And there is a prerequisite -- they live in a big city which has/ will have full-set 5G construction.
Getting multiple choices is cool, but it still needs to think what its target market's requirements and conditions.
It is a good advertisement, and that's it.

You do realize that 5G for mobile handset industry and it's consumers don't mean much at all. Mobile phones won't be able to utilize the speed and bandwidth of 5G for any meaningful purpose anyway. 5G is not being deployed so you could download your maps faster or stream higher bitrate movies, it's all about IoT infrastructure - superfast communication and even faster computing in split second. Maybe in 10 years when phone could do some powerful computing they could actually utilize 5G for something useful but today nor 5 years in the future that will not be the case.
Here is a realistic scenario for 5G on a phone: You travel in your non-smart car down the road doing 60mph, you are approaching the intersection with right of the way. On the intersecting road there is another driver with 5G phone in non-smart vehicle doing 45mph and he or she has to yield but for some reason they are not braking yet. Both 5G phones are constantly sending and receiving the realtime data of the nearby area from centralized server so both AI dedicated chips inside the phones have come to conclusion that other 5G phone is traveling in a car and one that has to yield is not slowing down fast enough or not slowing down at all so he/she will most likely blow through the intersection and cause accident. In that same moment both phones warn their owner to slow down immediately.
That's the purpose of 5G deployment and since mobile device is universal do-it-all gadget it will be one of the last to adopt for such scenario.

Anonymous, 15 Nov 2019We are talking of phones of 250 euros and cheaper after onl... more250 eur is a lot of money for hundreds of millions in india, china, africa, south america, east europe.... and this hundreds of millions represent the most of the customers mass. you should check, besides the number of sold phones, the average price of these sold phones. for a pauper with an wage of only 300eur /month, the one that buys a 100-200 eur phone, 50 eur represent quite a bit.

Anonymous, 15 Nov 2019We are talking of phones of 250 euros and cheaper after onl... moreI totally agree that 5G will be a good option.
But the markets whose most customers buy €250 phones, most of them won't have 5G tech in the next 3 - 5 years.

Xiaomi... an absolute innovator in the market, needs recognition. Alongside Samsung, LG, and Sony. Not as pivotal as the industry creators of Apple and Google.
And to a lesser extent Sharp, Asus, Motorola, Lenovo, Meizu, HTC, ZTE, Nokia, OnePlus, Huawei. They at least deserve participation awards.

Today those 4G mid rangers already cost that much. So there is a small difference in price at release and in few months ZERO against today phones and next year one from competitors.
Each one can choose whatever they want. But at the same or similar price. I'll choose a 5G phone from Xiaomi for sure before a 4G more of the same overpriced ones from others.

Anonymous, 15 Nov 2019It'll be relevant anyways as for the same price that others... moreBut what I want to say is, the price must be higher than 4G only considering the cost and minimum margin. 5G is a good option to choose, but it invisibly increases the price not only for 5G models. The R&D cost is definitely apportioned into every sale of the series.
As the construction difficulty and quantity concerned, I don't think the other Asian countries can complete building 5G net in the next 3 - 5 years, except the countries I mentioned below and Singapore.

NickNameNick, 15 Nov 2019But the thing is, most of Xiaomi's main markets still and w... moreIt'll be relevant anyways as for the same price that others not offer you 5G you'll already have a future proof phone. A lot of people don't change its phone every year so those that need or want to buy a phone in 2020 will have a valid phone for 2021 5G network in their country if available.
So yes, from a customer point of view buy a 5G phone even in 2020 makes sense. And more if those are available from the mid-range to the flagships. And after few months even affordable ones mid-range ones that dropped its prices. So thanks Xiaomi for do it. That even will force others to do it if they want to compete and that is a win win for customers with more choices available. But about all those from Xiaomi/Redmi that are really good and with a high quality/performance/price ratio.

How about also saying : " all of our flagships will now have stereo speakers, best screens available and IP68." ?
Even OnePlus now has stereo with Dolby.

nepu.bug, 15 Nov 2019I've used Xiaomi phones and I'm ready to try again if they ... moreBuy a Global official version of the phone or flash a Global firmware after unlock the phone. They let you do it. Problem solved if you live in a region or country with adds... Third gray sellers often put bloatware in the phones they sells with lower prices due to that. So try to buy it from a trusted or official store.
