Previously, Samsung relied on the Dual Pixel AF feature of the sensor. Why change that now?

    What on earth did I just read lol

      Probably because the new sensor has a pixel pitch of only 0.8µm and it is technologically difficult to split them into 2 smaller photo diodes (which needs to be done for the sensor to be Dual Pixel), therefore the camera needs a supplementary focusing system for faster AF.

            [deleted post]Thanks a lot. I'll stick to the iPhone and high-end Xiaomis. Enjoy the brand that releases products with useless gimmicks that become a problem at the end. Look at the S10/Note 10's fingerprint sensor issue, it even took half a year to fix that. Apple only needed less than 3 months to fix its software. Not to mention Samsungs have a lot of bloatware.

            Shame the overheating and battery consumption on the latest flagship Samsungs too. I have an S10e and heats up while playing games and watching certain vids despite screen res at HD+ and cache cleaned. Time to switch.

Generally prefer their own countries product thats why huawei sells 50 mil in china and iphıne has around %60 marlet share in USA

                          Anonymous, 25 Nov 2019If it has Laser AF, it means no Dual Pixel. I thought a phone can have both at the same time

                            So far, there were no Quad-Bayer sensor with dual-pixel AF as far as I know, may that be Sony or Samsung. This is the only reason that I'm not a fan of them. Dual-pixel AF is so fast and accurate that once you've used to them, every focus system would be much slower and could be a deal-breaker for some. Samsung knows this and the laser AF is there to compensate for the lack of Dual-pixel. But laser and Dual-pixel AF has their own limitations too, it's always better to have both of them (if possible) for the best of both worlds.

Sales went down because Chinese competitors offer the same quality and features but with a more competitive price (despite lack of brand recognition). The Mi Note 10 appears to be great. Iphone also seems to be meh, but it turned out that the base iPhone 11 is selling well.

                                So how did Shamsung swept away the Chinese competitors?

                                  It is silly that the S11e has the same screen size as the base Note 10. Shamsung needs to really downsize their phones. Also, camera bump copies the iPhone and Pixel.

                                  I also hope the overheating and battery life issue (usually occurs while gaming, despite resolution being only HD+) that was prominent in the S10 models and before gets fixed. Also, I hope that embarrassing incidents such as the fingerprint sensor (which took a long time until it got fixed) will not happen again

                                    -Overpriced, even iPhone 11 is still much cheaper and value-packed. Chinese phones even of better value.
                                    -Camera is actually mediocre, at least compared to the S10e and iPhone 11
                                    -Plasticky phone, JerryRigEverything successfully bent the phone. Means that build quality is subpar.
                                    -Dated chipset, Sd855+ and 8GB of RAM should be better
                                    -Small battery, all competitors have bigger battery.
                                    -Lots of potential bloatware

                                    Enjoy your expensive plasticky phone with mediocre quality, while we enjoy better phones with better value and camera.
