Low and mid tier phones are the ones that sell best in Asia, which now makes up something like third of BB sales and was the main source of RIM's growth in 2010. The people there can't afford the high end Blackberries, which are overpriced anyways.
In fact overpricing compared to competitors is one of RIM's major problems in general. Why pay for even a low end BlackBerry when you can get a Samsung or Nokia QWERTY phone for half the price? BBM used to be the reason, but with the recent popularity of WhatsApp and its nearly universal availability on all platforms, even the BBM advantage is vanishing. The security features of BB are nor really important for consumers.

Berries are good workhorses AFAIK, a Bold 9000 which I used for a while had a killer QWERTY keyboard.
It's true that RIM provides her own services which are supposed to offer better security to enterprise mail and such. I used to think that without BIS it's totally worthless owning a BB. There is, however, Logicmail: a mail client for BB phones. I only recently found out and thought it was strange the word hasn't spread around.
The newer models are EXTREMELY overpriced. Unless you're a RIM die-hard, there's miniscule chance you'll choose one over the similarly priced androids or iphones. It's a safer bet to get a low-end BB and a Playbook with the same money, since the latter has gotten quite affordable lately

RIM should stop focusing on their Blackberry Messaging service and start focusing on building real phones.

Heres mine,, about 75% of smartphone buyers choose between android and ios, while bb, symbian,windows phone, bada all share d remainin 25%, i'd say with nokia adopting windowsphone as its primary OS will lift it higher leaving behind d other mediocre OSes... BB is a really good phone, but d truth is dere's basically nothing u could do with it wen compared to say android/ios/even windows phone.. Nowadays people don't buy phones solely for business purposes, and please check well RIM, most businessmen are now adoptin ios/android,,, also with the youths.. So farewell BB, we'll miss u
PS: dose in islands, d carribean buying BB will soon realise how much more dey can get from ios/android and den they'll drop BB simultaneously, d fall will be great...
Personally i think BB are overpriced feature phones with BIS...
PS(again): i'm on android, dad's android, mum/both my sis' ios, my bro's BB, favourite cousins windowsphone & ios,,, and trust me i've used all deir phones like t'were mine, so i ain't bluffin...

advantage just Blackberry Messenger, expensive handset, slow :) but in indonesia blackberry heaven :)

well rim's phones are extremely expesive, their os is not even comparable to android or ios and they lack many feautures, such as big touchscreens, dual-core processors, decent cameras etc.. i think these are good point for rim to think..

Expect more news like this regarding RIM. I guess the real question nw is not IF but WHEN RIM will go under. Sorry BB fanboys, rant all you want but your beloved BB is headed for extinction.

I am using touch screen phones since there was only windows and HTC.
When Galaxy S was released I bought it and changed it with SII.
On both I used swipe.
I am a BB user since 2006 - as a business phone.
I type almost 2 times faster on BB 9900 then SII.
And swipe is not so great when your native language is not supported.
There are lot of tipe of BB users. My colleague stil can't tipe at a normal rate, she types faster on regular keyboard with T9.
That depends on who is using, but there are sites that test precisely this aspect (amongst others) - check them out, you will be surprised.
