Instead of just fousing solely on corporate, they should allow their phones to use the usual data plan. People still do want a BB for its qwerty keyboard, and there are not a lot of options out there.

Remember, once upon a time Apple wasn't even in the game. Then BAM! I hope for the sake of keeping a larger spread of mobile technology competition, RIM make a comeback.

Blackberry's success with the consumer was achieved more by accident than design. The teenage market came to BBM just when mobile phone contracts began to include data bundles whilst unlimited text bundles were relatively expensive. A few pop stars were seen toting Blackberries which made them cool. Also many teens lacked the savvy to realise that most of the stuff that they wanted to do worth BBM could be done with the average Java based feature phone.
BBM made them a bit of a one trick pony in the consumer market. Consumers who wanted other things like a decent camera phone or even an FM radio would pass Blackberry by ( and that's a few too many consumers to ignore). These days Iphones are perceived as cool, they do more and, when you take into account the extra cost of Blackberry services, on contract they cost about the same as a high end Blackberry

Anonymous, 30 Mar 2012Sorry but BBM is likely to become an irrelavance. Android h... moreWhatsupp is in fact available for all major smartphone platforms (including BBOS and iOS!) and Nokia Series 40 feature phones, not just Android. It is among the most downloaded apps in Nokia Store for example and ships preinstalled in some Series 40 phones. So I agree, BBM is quickly becoming more and more irrelevant.

Unless they make something drastic they will cease to exist within the next five years. They had the U.S. market during the time the U.S. was still way behind, the iPhone changed that and along came the android. RIM is way behind.

xenover, 30 Mar 2012Hah, they should switch to android. Maybe people would actu... moretrue . Its either wp7 or android . blackberry os was a fail since its first release. mooving into corporate is still a bad moove . Since androids are already targeting that sector with business phones( motorola) either rim brings us android with cool design or just quit the race.
IF RIM joins android then we will see allot of cool stuff on android later on wich will be awesome for all users .
