Would consider any andorid device for your second mobile or Android On SONY? I have no doubts on Sony's imaging capabilities but bit less on video.
They are doing good, but not to the extent of pioneering ,as they once were. that said, i reckon buying a Xperia lineup should be a good deal.

Updated – comment from the Developer World team:

We we would like to clarify that above mentioned “challenges” have already been addressed by our SW engineering teams. For instance, we have not only optimised the RAM management by making the RAM usage for internal apps as good as possible, but we will also introduce a Performance assistant at start up when running ICS. In this Performance assistant, you can enable and disable certain services that you might not want to run on your phone, in order to optimise the performance of your phone.

We have also worked with quite a few partners in regards to architecture optimisations for SQL handling. In addition, we have also optimised the hardware usage. And as a result of this article, a number of app developers have notified us that they are evaluating if HW optimisation will be needed or not for their apps.

The aim of this article was to share our knowledge regarding the different characteristics for ICS and Gingerbread in an open way, as we strive to have an open communication with the developer community. All in all, we would like to point out that it’s our clear aim to deliver an as good ICS update as ever possible. As you might have seen on the Sony Xperia Product Blog, we’re not far from releasing it now. Thanks for all the feedback!

Windows and Symbian is being better in HW and performance and Android is being worse.
I have a PC with 512mb Ram and single core CPU and it works fine with windows 7. it's totally a joke that a mobile OS consume more and more HW.
today it need 1gb+ ram and cpu tomorrow it'll need core i7 cpu and 8gb ram :-) for just an update to ICS 4.1

from sony official blog; it will be very difficult handle the ICS with our xperias 512mb ram. the 512mb ram, will struggle with ics due to the os apps will cosume more ram than the gingerbread.so guys think before u update.Anyway iam going to update my mini, of thinkining a rollback from ICS to GB if its not woking properly.

blueglue, 02 Apr 2012@Jim, Are you trying to replace BB with a good high end an... moreNo - just a mobile phone with another carrier to secure coverage and carrier redundancy. The BB's are integral to business and will not be replaced in the near future. My business has some 36 BB's without too many headaches, and no one is willing to change for a dedicate single mobile. We have looked at the usual suspects but BB is here to stay for its intended purpose. The Sony is of interest as the second mobile, and to have personal experience in where they and the os are heading, particularly camera and video technology given the extent of our traveling.

why every one crazy about ice cream sandwitch 4.0. I think there is only few things upgraded and nothing else and i think our some old apps also will not work in new update. Just enjoy your cell phones and your lovely apps, may b new update will make you unhappy or cry, if they didn,t fix bugs and every thing properly. And when new update come, after using new update may b you all need your old android 2.3.4 . I wish no body get angry ........................ (sorry for my bad english and grammer, i wrote this after reading whole comments of yours, GOD BLESSED ALL OF YOU)

more people keep asking to put everything in one place as reason easy in everything... or maybe that person dont have enough cash to buy high quality dslr, high end super user laptop and mobile phone that it should be.. no offence guys.. smartphone will never be powerfull as dslr, as super computer. even its run quad core or huge ram. so be thankful that each manufacture willing to give an update even it just half of your demanding.. learn to respect each brand names.. the person who makes it also a human with feeling.

512mb of RAM is not enough for ICS? Google's Nexus S has 512mb and works just fine. It's the same story again and again: Lies, lies and BS. Does anybody remember the Xperia X10 fiasco? The reason for all these lies is simple though. Companies don't REALLY want to support older phones, they don'make profits, they want us to buy new ones. Fortunately there are solutions for us. Google phones and custom roms. At least we can expand the lifetime of our phones more than the manufacturer's desire
