Sony pushes back ICS updates rollout to mid-April

Samsung did not properly test their ICS for S2, and use LPQ as a beta and slowly improve on each new beta release, but for those who got the first "official"/beta, LPQ, there will be many months before a more stable "official" release, on Kies or ota, in their region! Sony is better when they release a more properly test release to all the world and not new different "beta"-releases, LPQ LP7 LP2 LP3..., for each region of the world!

Anonymous, 02 Apr 2012It's SE's fault that they've sold 512mb phones, also it's S... moreI am not defending SE, I am actually criticizing SE/Sony because ICS do not run well on 512mb and Sony/SE should do as Samsung... and give a value-pack to GB and not try to make ICS run on only 512mb even though ICS is designed for 1GB or more ram!
Funny that you think I am on SE's paycheck when I most often criticize their design and quality! :)

AnonD-252, 02 Apr 2012The facts still remain the same because Sony is struggling ... morewhen the release will take place and people gonna start update there phones all of them will be happy and satisfied with the ICS. maybe sony has pushed back the release date but thats dont mean they will give you an buggy ICS. if they cant fix it as good as possible then the update will be cancel. but som of there newest phone like xperia solo and xperia neo L have a 512 mb of ram and they gonna have ICS when they gonna came out... så just wait and try ICS on sony xperia phones and see by your self if it good or not

I know you are on SE's paycheck, considering a fact that you are literally everywhere on the threads and reviews and defending SE's failed policies.
Don't be a jerk, SE is acting like a corrupt senator in Washington DC here and you just sound like faux news which disgusts me the most.

For those worried abt the issues with ICS update in Xperia 2011 devices, here's the latest update in the Sony Blog:

We we would like to clarify that above mentioned “challenges” have already been addressed by our SW engineering teams. For instance, we have not only optimised the RAM management by making the RAM usage for internal apps as good as possible, but we will also introduce a Performance assistant at start up when running ICS. In this Performance assistant, you can enable and disable certain services that you might not want to run on your phone, in order to optimise the performance of your phone.
We have also worked with quite a few partners in regards to architecture optimisations for SQL handling. In addition, we have also optimised the hardware usage. And as a result of this article, a number of app developers have notified us that they are evaluating if HW optimisation will be needed or not for their apps.
The aim of this article was to share our knowledge regarding the different characteristics for ICS and Gingerbread in an open way, as we strive to have an open communication with the developer community. All in all, we would like to point out that it’s our clear aim to deliver an as good ICS update as ever possible. As you might have seen on the Sony Xperia Product Blog, we’re not far from releasing it now. Thanks for all the feedback!

Sony Sony Sony.... We are waiting for this update since december when it was announce.. And with my ray being among the firsts to receive it, we are so excited about this. After reading hw d update on the S2 is nt much appealing, we are expecting a lot frm You, Sony. Hope your update is far far better than d Samsung's. The reason for dis hope s u as u hv made us habitual to b d best

I also have xperia x8 and it only get one update from android 1.6 to android 2.1 and after that x8 never get update so i sell my x8 and change to htc desire hd...

ofcourse it will not be available OTA, it needs a new kernel, you can't flash kernel OTA, can you ??? :)

I firmly believe as a part of marketing and upgrade strategies for mobile phones, it is deliberate that Android does not have an upgrade path for lower ram mobiles. I have absolutely no doubt this is to induce consumers to ugrade their mobiles to top end. All the manufacturers, Sony, Samsung (in particular), HTC, etc, are all guilty of releasing mid to low end mobiles that are dead ducks with no possibility to be upgraded. They just die over time. One should be very careful not to get sucked in with Android. Make a decission on your real needs and not just the speed at which wiggets can be moved. Me - I have a BB9900 for business (and no problem with it what so ever) and a Note (great but clearly over rated in what it can actually do) and looking for top end standardised Android mobiles for my company (to compliment the BB's). I like the Sony but really concerned with upgrade path and security issues with Android. Security is parmount in business.

You guys who are complaining about SONY has pushed ... moreICS do not run very well on only 512 mb ram, so Sony promised too much too early, because they have now realized that ICS will make their older phones, with only 512 mb ram, slower and less stable with ICS than with GB, so it is actually better and more customerfriendly to do as Samsung...and only give a "Value Pack" on GB and not the full ICS to phones with only 512 mb ram! Hey!
You guys who are complaining about SONY has pushed back the update. you should really be happy that they even give you an update. other manufacturers like samsung and HTC update only the newset phones. Sony could also update there newest phone but the love there customers so much so they gonna give it to the phones that can run ICS (xperia 2011 portfolio) and they and want to make as stable as possible so you guys can have ICS without any kind of problem...

A lot of people nowadays are so impatient. When you buy a new smartphone you basically pay for the phone's hardware and the pre-installed software. The software updates it gets or will be getting is just an added bonus.

what happen with your brain sony. htc has release their leak ruu ics update since february for sensation xe and its stable ...now my dhd will get update to ics early april and i am very happy because my dhd get three major update:
1. update from android 2.2 to 2.3.3 sense 2.1
2. update from android 2.3.3 sense 2.1 to 2.3.5 sense 3.0
3. and now very big update from 2.3.5 sense 3.0 to ics with sense 3.6 confirmed by htc
4. no manufacture like htc..... thank you htc for listening your costumer ....

Sony advices Xperia 2011 users to stay with Gingerbread as Xperia 2011 phones doesn't have sufficient memory.
Google has to be blamed here rather than Sony.
Because if I compare Android,which is just an OS for phones and tablets,with Microsoft WindowsXP,which is a full blown Operating system,runs flawlessly,fluently on my years old machine having a single core processor and just 512MB RAM,then why cant Android(ICS) run on Xperias' which have quite decent hardware..?
Or Google is paid heavily by component/hardware manufacturers to raise their sale by compelling its user to upgrade hardware every now and then with every update of Android OS...!!
