since i work w/ a carrier, i can say that if that would be the case on measuring the %, then what i can do is get a nokia phone, insert an optus simcard, access the internet, change the simcard to vodaphone, access that same internet again, then do it again w/ telstra.

if we IMEI trace is also included on the equation...then it would be a crazy survey if we will include handsets in the philippines. they can change the IMEI their in manila, maybe put a false hardware info on the handset's software. and revisit stat counter.

blueglue, 04 Apr 20121. Nokia still has money , but laying off people and cuttin... more1,2 yes i understand. they are moving to asia as well. a bit late, i agree. however when it comes to hardware, again people dont understand what makes a mobile. not just cpu and ram. e.g. nokia 701 is better than most of its android rivals in the same price range in terms of hardware. my n8 costs a lot, do you honestly think the camera with xenon flash, aluminium casing, fm transmitter, usb on the go, hdmi dont contribute to the end price? come on...
3 again my n8 doesnt have a removable battery. i would prefer it, but not because it freezes. if it did, you can hold the power button 8 seconds. you did know that?
4 like i said, some people like specs, some like premium looks and build. most androids looks similar and plasticky. i for one would pay more to have someting that looks and feels as a solid and well thought of product. to be honest, the price difference between 710 and 800 is too much, i agree. but it drops down on contract and with time. plus, how much does navigation cost on android? 50-60usd?

for the last thing you mention look at my previous post. sales numbers are not accurate

so a lot of iphones and android are being made and sold, but the number of them people actually use is much lower.

                      2. manufacturing in asia is way cheaper when compared to europe, US. is that a new thing? almost everyone knew it, thats the crux of outsourcing , isnt it? If nokia is late in realising the fact why should user bear the extra price? it obviously means they are selling the handsets to compensate the hefty cost they incurred.

                      3. This turns interesting, you say Great Design. Indeed, for the looks. What good is a merc if you cant open the doors in need and you call it a great feature of the masterminded design. Didnt quite get what i said? Apps, o/s sometimes are bound to freeze, the simplest way is to pull out the battery and restart. That simple, what should i do with Lumia 800? any secret locks to open it

                      4. Why does a Polycarbonate unibody made from REFURBISHED materials (most of the cases) cost so much?

                      5. Now Lumia 710 and 800 heavy price difference more than double, no h/w changes, again for the so called unibody, AMOLED, 8MP. How is this justified , just bcoz nokia believes it as superior design the buyer has to shell extra money?

**there are thousands of android phones all over the world, and almost all (if not all) come from asia. and youre saying there are no android phones on display in asian stores? what a joke...

When did i post any of such comment? have you mixed up with any other post?

lastly, the data in the link doesnt seem relvant, reason : It shows the andorid % is less than iOS for USA. which is FALSE. Original stats were posted few days back in GSM where android is steady at 48% and ios pulled up to 32%.

i don't believe the last part of your statement for no.2

I beg to differ. but symbian ONCE ruled china, india, africa. That is before China became a manufacturing giant in asia pacific. you can buy a copycat of iPhone4s for only a couple of dollars, and that handset does not use iOS. since the market will be asia, Most would rather buy a fake than the original in exchange w/ a dinnerbowl w/out any rice. we have thousands of nokia said phones which i belive you would think its really from nokia...but after you use it...you'll say... THE HECK! THIS IS A COPYCAT!.

no personal hatred to symbian...my first phone was symbian and i was happy using it before. but this i say... symbian is on much more steeper hill in asia than in the US and Europe where piracy is a serious crime.

That stat might show only smartphone users. considering most of the population would need to starve a few days to buy a wellknown smartphone, they would prefer what we call in the region as CHINAPHONES that has copycat OS of android, ios, symbian and WP. and those so called china phones or if your not in the south pacific, cheap phones... contributes to almost 70% of the phone users(smart and dumb combine) the point i'm making is to contradict your post that outside the US and Europe...symbian holds a big market share.

anyway... this is just an assumption since right now...i don't have access to third party websites (only GSMARENA)... Nokia might still want to hold on the affordable end niche that they created. since again...the rest of the world is not as rich as europe and united states.

now for as to where is nokia's money... errr.. am not quite sure. Might be on a general funding to revive symbian, could be put on a wp project.

1 nokia still has a lot of money, shares are going up after wp7 and 808. im not saying they didnt loose a lot of it, but theyre far away from going bust
2 until recently, majority of nokia handsets were made in europe (finland, romania, hungary,...) where, if you didnt know, the average pay is much more than in china or korea. however, nokia laid off some workers from europe and started moving to asia as well, to cut down on costs (every other phone maker does that already).
you compare lumia 800 with omnia w? ok, compare 710 also, it cost less than omnia w. hows that?
lumia 800 is not a phone you buy just for the specs, its a design masterpiece and if you cant understand that, i suppose you dont understand why mercedes is more expensive... hardware specs arent everything, a lot of people here make the same mistake over and over.

symbian moving to accenture - now nokia said they will support symbian to 2016, accenture didnt. im not saying that they will support it after that, but noone can say they wont. there has been more updates and great ones as well from when symbian moved there than when it was with nokia. it just shows theyre determined.
as for the asian market, someone said its crowded with nokia phones? first of all, my link showed smartphone shares, please read more carefully.

im just being real. to be honest i expected symbian to continue going down in market share. however the last year it went up a few points.
