Flashback: Nokia N9 was ahead of everyone but went nowhere

08 December 2019
Nokia's Linux efforts faced internal and external pressure, but they did deliver this jewel - only for it to be quickly discontinued in favor of WP7.

HMD, IF you think that you ARE Nokia, dont repeat their mistake.

Sure, Android One is good and you can provide update faster and more phones will get updated.

Sure, it is kind of differential for you to be consistent with Android One in the crowded world of Android.

BUT. You know exactly how Nokia got down. It's their stubborn head to go left when everyone go right.

I mean, go ahead with Android One. But on the top-tier flagship, you NEED to provide a full package of needed features as Android One is kind of lacking in some ways.

And, resurrect this MeeGo as Android is too much monopolize the mobile world.

    Please?

Nokia was using mid-range cpu for their high-end phones and priced it as a high-end phone. That's one of the the reason why they failed.

At that time 2011 android and ios they didnt have that much apps, Meego had lot of advantage over them, and it had lot of support from developers.

It had live desktop grade multitasking. The app actually continued to run while it was minimized. You could have multiple YouTube videos buffering and loading up in the background while browsing a website.

"The Original" Nokia was a great company.
Too bad what we have now is a "Fake" Nokia, which is a chiness company re-using Nokia name.

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2019Nokia doesn't make displays.they can't make foldable phonesNokia dont manufacture display, but they use to design them, they had bendable and rollable display prototype before, in collaboration with some japanese company even before samsung. In 2011 they had working prototype of bendable phone.

Elop & Apotheker can and will burn in hell for killing of such a great products and companies.

I had one, the black one. Incredibly gorgeous full touch device, with swipe gestures that were easy to remember. It was such a great phone, so sad MeeGo ended like this.

I think now looking back at history, we all secretly wish this was the path Nokia would take; and possibly todays entire landscape would be absolutely different.
Corporate greed and profit-focusing, America's WallStreet mentality, made the bolder step at the time; but WindowsOS was neither backed by developers nor worth the entire anexation of a massively successful decade of Nokia dominance.
What a shame for us all.

That's where Mi3 copied the design from, even the UI. Old school Nokia will still be known for its innovation. I know a lot could've happen today, if the trojan horse, Elop, wasn't made the CEO.

If only they could pursue it, it could comfortably beat Android which was a joke back then.
I felt like Microsoft did it on purpose, they wanted US-made OS to take over. They sacrificed their crappy Windows Phone to make sure that it takes Nokia down.

I still got mine and I'm never gonna sell it :) It's a lovely piece of mobile history from my home country. Never actually used it for much else than taking some pictures. I just wanted to own one so I traded my old SII for it back in 2015.

If nokia was still in play, we would not be having to pay USD 2500 for a new foldable smartphone :). Their designers would have developed it in 2015 and Apple would have been bankrupt by now with their no-innovation-just-drop-stuff strategy xD

We all learn about basics of strategy in companies. But those few years where nokia took decisions were like, the world's most idiotic decison making person took them.

You can't blame microsoft. They never loved the nokia brand name, and microsoft itself was pretty garbage when it comes to mobile devices.
