Sensors could easily have advanced better than what we have. Especially simply using 12mp 1.4um over and over.
And they do coinside with phone development and go for demand and progress.
The fact you attack someone's intelligence for simply understanding something that affects us all is ridiculous.
They've had the tech and ability to do better for years.

Same final score means nothing especially when lots of time have passed and lots of methodology revisions were made. I noticed that most of the people said that DXO is wrong or was being paid, they're the same people that only bases their argument in the final score. The procedure were clearly laid out in the article and there's also a separate page dedicated for their methodology, if only people read those and interpret them properly.

They just tweak them just to cater specific needs for smartphone applications and you should know that. Even the quad-bayer sensors from Sony were first implemented on CCTV-focused sensors then adopted for smartphones later. Thinking that it's only the smartphone industry that makes the sensors more compact is just narrow-mindedness. Most of your arguments were also based on wishful thinking, lol, I expected better actually.

There was a time when DxO wasn't even making the full resolution images publicly available and rating Sony phones as the best camera phones, and for me at that time their credibility was indeed quite horrible in every conceivable way. But they changed a lot since then.

Some people reflex in kneejerk fashion whenever they hear a word "DxOMark" and honestly I'm sick of seeing this kind of attitude. The truth is, while their overall scores are blackboxed and can't be used to judge the image quality of each device, individual scores do make sense and fairly accurately represent how phone cameras actually perform in each category. If you take a look at the full resolution sample pictures shown on their website, there are many instances where Mate 30 Pro matches Mi Note 10 in terms of detail, and they have been mostly taken under broad daylight where Mi Note 10 captures the greatest amount of detail.
Samsung can use 108MP sensor all they want, but let's just face the reality here - if they don't improve the image processing algorithms this time around, most of the extra MP will simply go down the drain. In 2020 more and more manufacturers will move onto larger, higher resolution sensor and the software will be the a lot more important differentiating factor than it ever was. It's good that Samsung is improving the hardware side, but they need to cook the raw output from the sensor in a good way as well.

The tech is not being "held-back", it's not that 1" sensors stopped existing, it's just that users wanted features but doesn't even want to pay a premium price for it. Even the moto-mod hasselblad hasn't gotten traction (not 1" sensor, obviously), the Samsung K Zoom (also small sensor size) died years back and also Panasonic's CM1 died too. Smartphone manufacturers doesn't want to operate on a huge loss that's why they don't make those devices anymore, it's not greed, just smart business choices. Smartphone manufacturing businesses were not charities you know.

Htc was relevant. And they specifically mentioned something around the pixels size or performance. Not just resolution.
And the 2um pixels on the old htcs were just that.

You mean Nokia only? Microsoft wasn't in the centre of the camera development of old Nokia phones, and HTC was only playing around the idea of "UltraPixel", instead of super high MP count. HTC has been irrelevant since 2015 though, so I don't understand why you even bothered including it in the list.

Xiaomi did a really decent job with Mi Note 10's image processing and yet only managed to get a single point higher than Mate 30 Pro in DxOMark's texture score, despite having a massive advantage in MP count. I wonder how much improvement (or regression) will S11 make over Mi Note 10 in this regard.
And I sincerely hope there won't be any difference in image quality between the Snapdragon and the Exynos variant of S11 like what happened with S10/Note 10.
