I really don't know if it's the software to blame or the usual Sony in-ability to use it's own tech, but the results speak for themselfs.
Sony cameras are one ... if not the best, why do we need to suffer such incompetency in smartphones?
I used many devices, but Xperia 5 is probably worse experience even compared to LG and that is something no manufacturer want's to hear.

Check XDA for FPS issues, there are many, not to mention Android 10 update for many broke the thing completely and it even returns error state in logs.

My mom can expect quick replacement for her old Xiaomi Note 4, I don't have time to use subpar smartphones.
Who knows, maybe Samsung can provide something decent with S11 line ... or Apple that promised no broken updates for iOS 14 ... or even LG if their V60 won't suck.

      I don't think that front camera is useless, but it's no way more important than main shooter of course.

        Stop thinking of ways to put the front camera there while maintaining thin bezels and just DON'T include the front camera at all. It's utterly useless and all it does is inflate the phone price unnecessarily.

I was in the store before ordering the phone and compared P30 pro, Note10+ / S10+ and Xperia 5. Every one of them has its own advantage over competition in camera department. For example Galaxies have best selfie cameras, great 4k stab and nice details. Huawei's zoom and night mode are great. While Xperia has excellent auto-focus with eye tracking, natural colors and manual mode (also CinemaPro app) with many settings.

          So I chose Xperia 5 because it fits my needs.
          I didn't find many bloatware apps and almost all of them can be uninstalled. And the amount of bloatware on devices from other manufacturers is greater than on Xperia. At least on European market.

          I previously owned an Xperia 10 Plus and that's where fingerprint problems have occured quite often. I had to scan my fingers multiple times to have decent results.
          With Xperia 5 it works perfectly fine right now. It always reads my fingers properly, unless if they are completely wet.

          Don't get what you are trying to say about charging. I have USB PD charger right from the box and it charges the phone for 50-55% in 25-30 minutes.

          I didn't find yet a signle app that is not compatible with 21:9 aspect ratio.
          And I don't have to visit XDA since no issues have appeared with my device and I enjoy it every moment of use.

            Camera is trash, especialy for video recording in slightly poor light, photograpfy "in house" is terrible. finger print sensor simply does not work, software support is non-existent, GCam ports do not work a LOT of app are not compatible with 21:9, charging is slow via Quickcharge - only fast when using PD + a lot of preinstaled bloatware etc.

              If we want notch less screen then motorized pop up is only good solution. Dont know why punch hole, looking at xperia 1 and 5 thin bezels. In hardware i dont doubt. Sony flagships will be powered by the best, what imho sony lack is more firepower in mid range class. Sony Xperia 10 and 10+, overall are inconclusive phones. In every segment it lacks something. Bad camera, bad battery, but then again good performance in mid range section. So my point is to see good midrange phone for 350EUR and also why punch hole. And tiny a bit. What can you stuff in tiny punch hole.. However Sony is trying to offer market something else, something which isnt used by others alot. Like LG few years ago but now LG is by popularity only 4th or 5th tier. It is hard to nail what consumer wants in this samsung, sammy, huawei smartphone world. Maybe needs better commercial section. Dont know but Sony doesn't use lesser chipset or lesser gorilla glass than others. Prices are there there roughly the same among top flagships, depends on internal storage most of the time. Sammy still expensier than Sony dor 100eur here, dont wanna mention apple, huawei is after 9 months 100 eur cheaper than xperia 1 but more expensive than xperia 5. Here at my plac3. Even in other second hand markets trio usually have better price than Sony or Lg. Too bad.

                                to that sony fan who never owned an xperia phone- what exactly is your argument; that you've read or watched in youtube that the xperias are great? that doesn't equate to first hand experience. see, everything happens for a reason- we can't blame sony mobile's marketing team for their downfall; if they are making such great products then it would have marketed itself. consumers like you and me do not base their brand loyalty entirely to marketing; ultimately what furthers a brand is the first hand experience of its consumers. if consumers are not getting what they wanted, they will just go somewhere else and this eventually led to the predicament sony mobile is in right now. i'm not saying 4k screen is not good, nor that 21:9 aspect ratio is a gimmick (this actually is great with my FIRST HAND experience with xperia 1); people were just not finding value in them. the smartphone market is quite dynamic and it really is difficult to guess what the next trending feature would be; the problem with sony is they just stick to what they want and never listen to its consumers. sony fans argues that sony mobile uses the kaizen process of dealing with business; well, that exactly is the problem because principles behind the kaizen process are tied to the internal dealings and has got nothing to do with their consumers, in fact the process completely neglects their consumers. so, here, they try to sort of "go with the flow", but i don't think they got it right at all- the trend today is towards bigger batteries, high refresh rates (apparently their claim that their previous flagships had high refresh rate screens was false), and zoom telephotos. let me just say that the only time i would respect your opinion is when sony mobile is able to stand on its own feet again and prove its worth.

                                  there is an innovation but more or less
                                  the major factor why Sony followed the trend (punch hole)
                                  to catch consumers attention not those

                                  to continue with the business Sony will just dig their

                                        What I loved about Sony was that they were trend setters, not followers. Now this will be like any other phone in the sea of Chinese swamped devices.
