If I wanted to replace a compact XZ1 with a smartphone equipped with a 6-inch screen, I'd go straight to Samsung. If I want to see a movie on a big screen, I'll go to a movie theatre. As for the price, I can put in 600 or 700 euros, which seems like more than enough to make a product that's not technically exceptional in 2020, except for its non-existence on the market (this isn't a Samsung S10e, no). Meanwhile, Apple is going to make another bundle of money with an outdated iPhone SE.

Foreground darker than actual scene, overblown highlights on high contrast scene, and at the moment in low light, brighter parts looks too blown, darker parts crushed shadows way too much. Darker than what the real scene are. Thats includes both Xperia 1 & 5. Colors produce by it are nice by the way.
So neither got it right. But as for overall image quality without pixel peep for the artifacts or whatever it is, computational photography are an advantage in a smartphone world, especially for auto point & shoot. Dont like it? Well u have a choice to not use it. The problem is Xperia dont have that choice. Newer Iphone, Google & Huawei are best on those aspect at the moment. Samsung? Yuck, overdone.
But we all got our own preferences by the way. I just prefer the latter.

Background gets dimmer than it is ...
Colours get saturated and warmer than they are....
The purpose of a camera is to capture the scene as close as it is possible.
Our eyes see the reality as it is.
If someone prefers saturated/warm over reality, this person has issues.

I'm so glad that Sony realised their mistake faster than any other companies and would become the first one in the market to bring back the headphone jack. It was a stupid trend made by Apple that for some reason Android manufacturers ended up following, and it needed to be stopped at some stage.
I don't have any complaints on this phone apart from its super long 21:9 display, so kudos to Sony for bringing such a competent flagship to the market! Now I can't help but wish it will have good cameras as well, as they have been falling behind competitions for several years in this area. It's time for them to come with better image processing and their own version of night mode.

No, they wont adopt heavil... moreThen Sony should adopt computational photography like how Apple/Google/Huawei do - better dynamic range, lower noise level and superior detail retention without making the final photo look too fake or unnatural. After all, this is a smartphone camera made for general consumer and not meant to be used in a way dedicated cameras are handled by professionals. It must have a good post processing technique to catch up with competitions.

Why spend time editing when the phone can do it for you via HDR?
Many times a single exposure by that tiny camera sensor in your phone results in blown highlights. HDR can save those shots.

your claim that "OLED will not save you battery unless you are running at very dim brightness, most of the time people have their screens blasting at max brightness so there is no power efficiency benefit"- firstly OLEDs is battery efficient when using black background and dark themes, likewise if it goes with a lower resolution like FHD that the poster mentioned. i'll leave it up to you to find out why OLEDs are power efficient when using dark or black backgrounds and themes. on your claim that most people have their screen at max brightness is also not true- or at least with people i know of- when indoors they have their brightness to as dim as can be.
what i am just finding odd is that of a 5 inch screen- that would be rather small. i know some people are still yearning for more compact devices, but with the shrunken bezels now we could easily fit at least a 6 inch screen to the same dimensions as the 5 inchers from a few years ago.

Wish they would go back to flush camera module. Other then that, I think this is their most modern design yet.
