Sony always lacked something. Hardware wise. Never lacked anything, considering flagships. Mid rangers are the one Sony didnt invest well. Make midranger as is Xiaomi note 8 pro, then as midrange is sorted out. Flagships always had excellent performance, but lacked a bit in camera department, next year was battery then no audi jack and all negative atmosphere around sony andnreviews across the net.
If this plus is true, then it seems Sony wants to sort out, some deficits. Also in small phone u cannot fit all you want, good that sony is keeping big screen, they can make it perfect.
12mp cameras are obsolete already... So i want to see camera around 48mp but maybe not quad bayer. Will see, hopefully Sony learned something from last two years.

Finaly sony is returning to their best design period.
I really like the z5/premium vibe.
Sharp, blocky design, well hidden stereo speakers, flat side frame, side pfs...
But that aspect ratio? Idk.
Imagine if it was 18:9.
But sadly not gonna happen.

On the other hand it could be useful for them to listen to their customers, who ask for compacts of 135mm high. No need for notch, no need for holes, no need for an ultra-thin case, no need for stupid and inefficient induction, just a 5 inch FullHD OLED screen to reduce power consumption and increase battery life, a jack plug, two speakers, a fingerprint scanner on the right side, a button to trigger the 48 megapixel camera. The snapdragon 855 and 6GB RAM, 128GB of storage, that'll be all thanks.

I really hope they dont use the same 8mp selfie camera as in the xperia 1 and such, it honestly isnt very good even compared to some mid range phones

In november Sony did an online survey (for USA, but you could pretend to be in USA too) so people could say what they like and dont like about xperia. What was important to them, what they would like to see on upcoming phones.
By that , we could make them see we want headphone jack, more than 4000 mAh and other stuff.

You need to find way to put everything bigger phone has without having to cut features.
This phone has 4 rear cameras (one is periscope) and ToF.
It probably has DVS and Qi coil.
X has 13MP 1/3" selfie. X Compact has 8MP 1/4". Same applies to XZ1 and XZ1c.
XZ2 has DVS and Qi, XZ2c does not.
It is impossible to put all this inside a phone as small as XZ2 Compact. Not even if they use small 19xx mAh battery like iphone 8.
In the end, it would be uselless effort to make a small flagship that is not a mini version of big brothers. Just a lower tier phone with same cpu.
