Lumias aren't competitive enough, say European carriers

17 April, 2012
The high price tags, mediocre marketing plans and some software issues are to blame.

the world is moving on with 4G and this was missing which is shame for LUMIA.

ROFL LOL skype is on windows and no video calls

NOKIA you need to more focus on features.

That's what they said when Android 1.5 and 1.6 started showing up on stores... Lack of features and no way competitive against other phones. WP can be or not a hit on the market but no one should expect it to be in the first 2-3 Quarters. 2012 will show if WP have space to grow and 2013 will be the year where we will see if this OS will be a success or a failure. Until then, no great conclusions can be made.

The Man, 17 Apr 2012You said WP is faster than Android where is your proof for ... moreMaybe you should stop relying solely on GSMArena and start reading Nokia Symbian sites and blogs if you want accurate Symbian phones' specifications. The Nokia 808 PureVeiw has dual GPU. It's main GPU is BCM2763 with 128MB video memory which is one of the most powerful GPU's out now, and it also has a Nokia-customed dedicated camera GPU that sits besides the sensor.

I also prefer not to fund anti-progress aka Apple lawyers (but that's another issue)

Its not as if Nokia didn't have a choice. Without tying themselves only onto Windows Phone's helm, they should've adopted their primary mobile operating system as Android, and also manufactured mobile phones with Windows Phone and Symbian as subsidiaries.
Windows Phone alone simply cannot steer Nokia clear of the iceberg looming ahead. It needs support, which can only be provided via the likes of the Android OS.
Nokia set the standard in mobile telephony when I was a kid. What with the N series phones, Xpress music phones, Communicators, coupled together with sturdy low and mid range phones...practically unbeatable...until now.
With the top dogs such as Samsung, Apple, HTC, and Sony churning out phones at a rate, there's really no other place to run Nokia.
                      Its not too late.

The N9 wasn't even a mainstream phone with only limited availability. The fact that up to this day it hasn't been ousted at the top of the popularity rankings on this site means that interest over this phone is massive. This OS had so much potential to be huge if only Nokia gave it a chance.

I think I disagree with most here.

IMO the main reasons Android is much more popular than WP are:

                          1) The integrated offerings from Google

                          2) WP (unless you forgot) was so delayed as a project it missed the point in time when the rate of smart phone adoption started to massively accelerate. Unless you were a smart phone early adopter then you may not know have known that the option even existed.

                          3) Microsoft lost many of their loyal WM fans and devs when they announced the new WP direction. Sites like XDAdevelopers drove much of the interest in early smart phones in times where smart phone owners were not technical Noddies (Apple got them into the market :) ).

It's obvious why iOS and Android are at the top these days. It all boils down to the apps the OS has to offer.

It's not selling good because of price. In america nokia phones are very cheap. In the europe is too expensive. In my country lumia 800 cost 500 E.

Can't they develop Symbian and Maemo (don't like to call it MeeGo) as their home OSes and make some Windows Phones for those who like it with Nokia's designs and build quality and advertise each other in different markets?? If something is succesfull in the USA it doesn't mean it will be a success in China or India or Europe. Look at Samsung, they have 10 differnt OS and they don't have any problem with them they also make refrigerators and washing machines :P, so this not an excuse for Nokia to just going for one OS for sure it will fail :( (Bring Meltemi ASAP or GTFO!)

I both Android and Windows Lumia 800. Both excellent phones android offers more apps and features however I prefer the simple and user freindly Windows interface. Its much quicker and smoother then any android I used so far. I really hope Windows picks up in europe as it is an excellent mobile OS.

If I were Elop, when he was yapping about the burning platform,I would have foreseen this epic fail. This Nokia-MS combo looks good in the portrait.Bit it is a pretty bad mixture.Tea is good.Porridge is good. What of the mixture? Now had Elop succeeded the N9 with a plethora of cutting-edge Meego devices,as he tries to woo google for a historic Nokia Android phone, albeit just one, perhaps this could have been a different story. But for now, let's face the truth,Microsoft's charm was too great for Nokia to escape, but as they say...fairly tales don't always have an happy ending.

WP doesn't tolerate HD games like Shadowgun or Max Payne or any HD games GTA3 so that they didn't released these games for WP and WP doesn't support multitasking nor custom roms so stop making lies like all Nokia fanboys you are really lame and pathetic
And about 808 dual GPU where is your source here in GSMarena it has empty space for the GPU No GPU and from my last post
                                        ~Take Nokia 808 Camera pixels 7152 x 5368 and divide ÷ it on 2:
                                        (7152 x 5368)/2 = 3576 x 2684 that is it ONLY 3576 x 2684 which equals 8MP and if you multiple it will give you 16MP = "6528 x 4896"

You just jealous type because no one has interest in Nokia and Samsung sold over 20 millions of galaxy S1 and S2 series while whole Nokia N8 E7 bla bla Lumia didn't sell quarter of that number >>> Who is the better now?

And N9, Lumia has Samsung parts in it check the Russian guy who opened N9 to parts and also Nokia imports Amoled from Samsung

They have been years in field of communication and they DID NOT achieve anything or make anything special other than import parts from Foxccon and Compal
