I need an option: "probably yes, but not because I want it". The thing is, if you're buying a new hier-mid range or high-end phone in 2020 it'll be 5G.
I don't care about 5G at the moment and won't care for quite a while (service providers here aren't exactly quick with infrastructure upgrades), but I do need a new phone so ...

My carrier did automatically updated my plan to 5G. Now I have a 50GB 4G and 80GB 5G data plan, but I am still rocking a 4G phone. I really gotta buy a 5G phone :))

If it's 5G, it should also be notchless and punch hole free, otherwise it's a no go.
The list of phones that match this is narrower every day unfortunately.

From this point on, the choice for pure non-5G smartphones will become increasingly narrower, because most of new main stream SoCs will come with integrated 5G support. Starting next year, probably all the new main stream SoCs will come with integrated 5G modem, including those intended for lower-priced smartphone segments. The difference between 5G and non-5G will depend on whether phone-makers turn off the 5G functionality within the SoC. By turning off the 5G, phone-makers can save the 5G license (patent) fees (very low per phone, $1-$3). The price difference will essentially be zero.

PeterThePanda, 19 Jan 2020People already talking about how fast 5G will be when most ... moreThat's much slower than Wifi. Wifi is quite fast actually, 802.11ax easily goes into the gigabits on home use routers, not many 5G deployments even reach gigabit currently.

You should if you're thinking ahead, unless you upgrade in a few months Everytime then it won't matter
Plus phones coming out with 5g have the same price as the 4g versions but greedy companies especially samsung just want to release the 5g versions in some areas

Depends on OEM prices, specs, it will not be available in county side anyway. Phone barely can get 4G signal to window.

5G isn't in my country yet and it will take a couple of years to become mainstream enough to be usable so there is no point in paying the added cost yet. 4G is enough for me for now. A faster 4G network would be a more feasible dream than 5G
