Obviousl... moreI am not debating the size of Google vs WeChat one bit and obviously Google has the tools to spy, that is obvious and they also have troves of data on people all over the globe. However while living in the North, South America or Europe I do not have to use Google, it is merely a tool if I ever need it, which I typically do not use it all that much if ever.
You cannot say the same thing about WeChat in China. If you are 45 or under it is a prerequisite to live in that country, it is almost impossible without it. How about you hop on WeChat and send a message critical of the Chinese leader or Gov't to a friend... see how long before your account gets banned or locked out. LOL. WeChat is being used as a tool for control and while I dont fully trust Google either with my data, I am not required to use it for any part of my daily life.

Tomtom doesn't care about maps. 'TomTom sold its telematics division to automotive giant Bridgestone Europe for €910 million ($1,033 billion)', a year ago.

I hope USA wont ban them the same way as they did with Hauwei.

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2020you are ignorant if you think only your location is what go... more...im ok with it since their info is outdated. Have only used an Andriod device in the past for a couple years. I have iOS, my default browser online is Firefox and have no Gmail account.... then again i'd trust Google with my information more than WeChat (aka The state sponsored controlling freedoms app)

So the only TomTom is a good option left.
I used to like TomTom before Google map came along.
If Huawei offers TomTom offline maps like Google then I might give it a try.

Google is all about advertising money so they're good for streets and addresses but not much else. OSM is lacking in addresses but it has far more map details - pavement type, trails, walkways, bathrooms, benches, traffic control, land use, and landmarks. I wouldn't consider buying a phone that doesn't have a microSD slot or 1TB of onboard storage so I can keep a hoard of OSM maps. (I pay a bit to OsmAnd and OSM for their work)

Maps and I am for OSM, where I live OSM is way better (much better map details). You won't be getting sponsored paid proposals where to spend your money from OSM & it will took you time to find a useful info on G. Maps & even that you will get thanks to contributers. I stopped being G. Map contributer as I don't want to feel it up in Google's grass for nothing. When you need to travel OSM shines again (so does the Tom Tom) even more so if you are biking, running or hiking. I prefer to use Navigator with both OSM and Tom Tom map's.

TomTom plus Huawei equal more spyware. With China spying now they can stop protester because of there software. How you seen what there software do it lock onto face or license so if you’re a protester easy prison for life without no one fighting back.
