Oppo Find X2's sensor specs leak, will output 48 MP images

21 January 2020
We are also expecting IMX616 for front-facing setups and IMX686 as an upgrade over the IMX586.

Anonymous, 22 Jan 2020Only auto focusing technology better than 108mp HMX. It's ... moreHuawei always uses custom sensors tho, so you aint making any point here

Anonymous, 25 Jan 2020108mp sensor is a hype. Go to the Mi Note 10 pro review an... moreHi
this is because the 108mpx sensor of Mi note 10 is not top top. Pixel size in 27Mpx pictures (4 to 1 pixel binning) is about 1.6um, else the 10mpx(4 to 1 pixel binning) on v30 has about 2.0um pixel size.
In 108mpx of S20 ultra, the sensor is able to do 9 to 1 pixel binning getting a 12Mpx with pixel size of about 2.5um.
        P40 will have a 51.2Mpx with 4 to 1 pixel size getting a 12.8Mpx about 2.5um.
But 108mpx of s20 ultra is a little more flexible than Huawei 51.2mpx because is able to make 108mpx@0.8um (used for zoom. cropping 108mpx pic you get a 4x 12mpx loseless zoom), 27mpx@1.6um and 12mpx@2.5um. Huawei p40 is able to make 51.2@1.25um and 12.8mpx@2.5um

108mp sensor is a hype. Go to the Mi Note 10 pro review and click on "Picture Compare Tool". Compare the low-light photo of the Mi Note 10 108mp to Huawei V30 pro and you can see that Huawei produces better quality photos. The V30 uses the same sensor as the P30 pro and Mate 30 pro. The 108mp sensor can't even beat last year's phone.

Nick Tagataka, 22 Jan 2020So this new IMX708 will be the Sony's answer to Samsung's 1... moreI can imagine it is for bragging rights more than technological advantages (not saying there won't be any tech advantage though).
            You see, for smartphone world:
            1. The first 100 MP something sensor
            2. The first to implement nonacell binning
            3. The (pseudo) biggest pixel size at supposedly 2.3 micron after binning

At 1/1.33" size, coupling such sensor with 64MP (16MP after binning) would be glorious, imo.

The 686 replaces the 586 because they belong to the same price range.

Anonymous, 22 Jan 2020686 is not midrange sensor. It has much more advanced tech... moreIMX686 IS a midrange sensor. Just because it uses more advanced tech than Samsung's counterpart (GW1), it doesn't mean it's a high end sensor. Companies like Xiaomi, Oppo or Huawei will probably use it for their upper midrangers but not for their highest end flagships.

Anonymous, 22 Jan 2020686 is not midrange sensor. It has much more advanced tech... moreOnly auto focusing technology better than 108mp HMX.
It's going to be on budget flagships. It beats everything in its price range.
But it's not a premium flagship sensor. Otherwise, Huawei would have used the 686 in the p40 pro.

So this new IMX708 will be the Sony's answer to Samsung's 108MP sensor that will be on S20 Ultra. It definitely looks promising!

Honestly though, I don't see any benefit of going for the nona Bayer instead of keeping the quad Bayer structure. It would make the array conversion process almost impossible, and if anything ever so slightly reduces the light sensitivity due to more cell walls between each pixels cutting down more lights coming into the sensor. If the effective pixel size after binning process is identical, then what's the point of dividing pixels into even smaller units? Could someone tell me why Samsung is possibly doing this?

LG Superfan, 21 Jan 2020Could it be 192MP sensor? And if it is 48MP sensor it could... moreThe 48MP spec of IMX708 is limited by the AF's 2x2OCL technology which basically implemented for quad Bayers only as the name implies. So the Megapixels were right given that GSMArena's statements regarding the sensor were to be analysed.

Can someone do the math and figure out what is the pixel size on that new Sony imx 708 sensor?
It's not too hard I mean you have the sensor size and you have the pixel count but I just can't bring myself to do it.
