Muckpuck, 19 Apr 20122. Reset all voting stats and only allow voting for logged-... moreToo much work for admins... maybe a captcha, the spammers won't have that much persistence to keep typing the captcha to every single vote

option number 3 sounds best, to me..

at least no more downvoting phones that people don't like..

If you are aware of the ratings in cnet.com we see two kinds of ratings - one is the user rating and the other is the editor rating which are two stand alone ratings. The user rating is like an average of all the ratings and that doesn't have any negation and the editor rating is just a stand alone rating or anything like that but is just influenced by the cnet editors. Why not you come up with your own rating alongside with the user rating so that readers of your page will have a view of what you say is good and not good along with what people feel.

So, if the difference between the user rating and the editor rating is too significant, you can introduce some logic to tell that there is some fraudulent happening at the user rating for that particular product or model or it would be self evident to the users that the user rating is something fishy. And also, let the ratings be not jus ratings, capturing the comments and ratings from user should well define the meaning of what and why the rating is given to a particular model.

This is what I thought could help but if I come across anything more useful, I hope I can add as a new comment to this thread.

facebook login seems better because then a person wont be able to vote more than once or twice depending on their account numbers and everyone has a facebook account.

Or just scrap voting systems full stop - don't really see much value in a voting system as it doesn't sway real interest in purchasing

Leave it like this only but add a new option like gsmarena's review team vote. where only you people can vote it , it will be biased and rank the phone as per the review teams vote.

Just make everyone can vote for one phone per day
              And put editors vote

2nd option is best , though the voting volume will go down

                          2. Reset all voting stats and only allow voting for logged-in users.

I believe that this solution is the best.

And what about forcing the voter to include a comment that breifly explains the given score to the phone, and then GSMArena admins can accept or deny the vote?

This might result in a lower number of votes, and admins have to work more, but it would filter away spam-voters.

I support solution 3: Scrap the current system and introduce an entirely new one, which only allows positive interaction. You will only be able to vote for a phone and phones with the most votes will be rated the highest. Yeap, a blatant Facebook rip-off, but there's a reason why that feature is so successful.

well the best thing is to add a caputcha and a user has to leave a meaningfull explanation to his vote

Solution 3. But make it possible to vote only one. If you like it, vote up. And nothing else. If you don't like the phone, leate it the way it is.
