Also, Android phones don't NEED any google services at all, that includes Google Playstore & Google Services Framework & so on. They are entirely optional, and Android phones can run without them on base Google AOSP Roms. All recent Huawei phones come without any Google service whatsoever.

Next time do some research before you spread misinformation.

HW gmail can be replaced by email and hw can produced their own map,for me am okay with everything hw is going to do bec us ban is not going to be lifted soon and if it does hw may still face more future ban so hamony os is the only solution huawei has.

If Mr. Wangfei’s statement refers to a new Huawei policy, it signifies a break from the past. In the past, Richard Wu, CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, has said that he would roll out Google Apps for Mate 30 users on day one if the US trade ban was rescinded. At the Huawei Mate 30 launch, he said that the company was forced to turn towards HMS because of the political situation. Resolving not to use Google in the future even in the absence of trade restrictions would be a momentous decision. We advise waiting for other Huawei sources to corroborate this statement. After all, the company has been known to retract statements before, and the way forward is still unclear.

What is the commercial value of to always lying

If Huawei is genuinely interested, they can finally end the monopoly of Google. Citizen and a few other OS came and went and haven't been ableto do that. But if Huaweinplans it well, they can.

The Android and iOS platform's dominance meant slow development of a few things and still many missing photography and videography features from android. Also, a much lighter android OS, among other things.

Huawei must work on creating the OS with developers in mind, and work on working backwards. It needs to be open source and COMPLETE TRANSPARENCY is key to bringing everyone on board. And it needs developers like FilmicPro, Snapseed (which was later acquired by Google) etc.

It also needs other smartphone companies in board, so it needs to offer the OS to other companies (Starting with the smaller ones), and take their feedback on their expeirnce using the Huawei OS.

Misfit2Fields, 31 Jan 2020So... Will the p40 not have Android 10? They said no GMS...... moreAndroid and GMS are two separate things.

Huawei phones will continue to come with Android. They just won't come with GMS (Google's apps like play store, maps, gmail, etc).

Albert E, 31 Jan 2020I will stand with huawei and offer my support in the new ec... moreThere is no competition with Android. Windows mobile was the only one there at first...now look at it. Not to mention Huawei would have to ditch the current platform they use and ride on with every single device the have in circulation that people care about. There is no way they will break free from Android...and even if they do it won't happen the way one would envision it. Look at ubuntu touch, SailFish OS and many others. They are only trickling with users for a reason....

From my view, Huawei is only buying time with their mobile division by using the media in such ways and also what they actually have control over...FW (camera tech mostly). They could survive just selling gear to China and the eastern states alone...they just want to put up a fight it seems.

It only acts as per the will and orders of their gvt, (CCP), the chinese hurry about 5G Deployment precisely in china is not to make users happy, is for gathering huge real time intelligence from ALL users, all people thinking that chinese companies act just in behalf of consumers are plain delusional, huawei spearheads the most gigantic control apparatus inimaginable before 5G, the ultimate surveillance and control method that all users willingly accept without a single complain, that is the real reason of the USA ban, which in turn is more or less the same as the chinese ban for domestic use of google services, but, of this, nobody makes a fuss

Nick Tagataka, 31 Jan 2020So... basically one of the country managers of Huawei state... moreHuawei is a massive company and regional managers have their own opinion of the situation which is constantly fluctuating and it's completely unclear right now what's going to happen.

If anything I would fault the media for forcing company reps from not voicing their own opinions because a person from company X speaks and you have headlines blurting out X company said this and that. Then the media later complains no one wants to talk to them.

Not to mention, Google isn't doing anything revolutionary with new android versions anyway. Innovation in OS space has grown stagnant. What Huawei should do right now is globally allow bootloader unlocks, provide full kernel/device sources, let the world see there's nothing fishy going on under the hood. At the same time allowing developers a way to keep their devices alive and popular for long after (and allowing GMS install also.) Because if there isn't anything wrong under the hood, what's stopping them since they're in a fix globally.

So... basically one of the country managers of Huawei stated his personal opinion as the company's consensus, and then the official freaked out and said: "Everyone ignore what he says, we're just letting him run our Australia branch and he's not our representative".
Like WTH? Why would they even give him a permission to speak for the company when it was so obvious that he would say whatever the crap he wanted to say? Get your s*** together Huawei.

Let's look at what GMS is firstly: a selection of apps like play-store, search, chrome, YouTube, play-games etc.

So what if play-store isn't available to people? Might not be that difficult for them to install apps from somewhere else if they truly want. Phones are getting easier to operate anyway. There are countless how-tos on internet if difficulties arise.

Search and Assistant are something that 'will' retain Google monopoly. There's simply no better assistant that can do as many things, as proficiently like Google's.

Contacts sync are easier to implement. YouTube can still be opened in browser. Game leaderboards depending on Google Play Games will be a blow. But I don't think it's a deciding factor for people to buy a phone (or not).

Remember, Huawei isn't starting something from scratch like developing a new OS (Well, technically they are, but harmony OS isn't part of this discussion). They're still relying on AOSP. People will still be getting, in the end, a 95% familiar android experience, which is why, I think Huawei can actually pull this off, if it really wanted. And that's why they did that announcement (even if they later backed off).

Interesting.... If HW has their map nav system, and now Apple is also building on their own, it will be fun to see how Google will response.
