You know the argument is invalid already when it's Apple making claims about innovation.

Oh right, because Apple who makes it so their chargers break every couple months is totally gonna be causing less e-waste with their cruddy solution.

Nice! Congratulations EU! I'm sure everyone can't wait to pay 20€ extra on their next iPhone to help the world off of 0.00001% plastic waste while chinese dump tons of the same stuff in ocean every day.

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2020Lightning Port was doing everything the USB-C does way befo... moreThe problem was they kept the tech for themselves and if they come up with something better they'll probably want to do the same because they see more profit on exclusivity.
They could have proposed Lighting as the standard before type-c, they can do it now and a lot of people would probably approve it, they just don't want to

"As research by sustainablySMART shows, most of the e-waste is generated by the charging brick, not the cable"
err, i think the source of e-waste is generated by the phone itself i guess.. market now flooded with many phones now, some even similar.
people buy phone comes with charger,
people dont buy phone means also no charger too,
people replace his phone comes with charger too, although his previous charger is still can be used to charge for his new phone..
so, the source of e-waste itself is the phone not the charger lol XD

Pabliell, 31 Jan 2020So now the EU wants to kill the innovation in fast charging... moreI don't think you understand how government works. If there was no legislative body or Parliament, the entire EU would be in utter chaos. Next time think before you make ignorant comments ;)

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2020If everyone adopts usb-c then the prices will go as low as ... moreMan thats exactly correct apart the fact USB-C with apple logo will cost equal to lighting charger where they ask 25 euros for a charging brick and 25 euros for cable despite all are equally same.

"Their suggestion is to ban or disincentivize the inclusion of a charger in the retail packaging for smartphones"
So basically chargers are to be bought separately, epic. Phones are losing fundamental features such as 3.5mm jack and chargers while gaining gimmicky and useless features.

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2020Lightning Port was doing everything the USB-C does way befo... moreSorry, but no, USB-C is not Apple's innovation. They are part of the spec sheet but there are a lot of companies listed, some with more engineers involved:
https://betanews.com/2015/03/16/no-john-gruber-apple-did-not-basically-invent-usb-c/
Oh, and they were introduced in the same year, even if Lightning was first to the market.
