Camera, Tv and mobile are now in the same division or group. So it might be better in the future. But time will tell.

      Are they exist yet ?!

potato4k, 04 Feb 2020Sony won't, but Sony mobile, maybe. This uptick in sales pr... moreIt's not the divisions that are killing each other but it is the senior executives of the Sony corp who put barriers between the divisions and don't want them to use each other. The divisions are simply following orders.
This talk that they're saying about Alpha team rejecting to fix Sony cameras is a lie but they just say it for the media because they can't say it's our fault we neglected the mobile division and couldn't give everything it needed even the cameras.

You are right, Sony can make all in one products which could kill the competition because they have the entertainment and the tech and no other company has it.

They can also buy half the shares from Vaio and introduce a business smartphone on the android that as very strong business applications and features that could make the businessmen/women buy it. It only needs an elegant look and classy and luxury but with lower price and that's it compete with the note. Therefore, Xperia becomes the entertainment phone + gaming, music (merging with the Walkman because no one buys the Walkman and what they release are super expansive) movies/TV shows, bring back TrackID and something from their TV panel technologies and more. Sony can compete and can come back.

I think Sony Xperia 5 was a minor hit in the markets where Sony are active with the mobile business. EU and Japan. A compact device but with good specs.
Atleast here in Sweden they had a lot of deals with it during BlackFriday. And the carriers have promote it also.

                Servicable at best.

I was pretty sure that the 1 and 5 were well received, and this jump in sales clearly shows that.

And this will not end there according to the leaks from the next flagship.

Regardless of their innovation, without proper marketing strategy, Sony will continue to be overshadowed.

                    Plain explanation:
How will people know what they created if they don't advertise!

For the pricing they can learn from huawei flagships.
                    $650-850.

Hoping I could replace my xz1c with new compact xperia

But hell, that Sony X1 is such a joy compared to my previous Huawei Mate 10 pro! I don't even care about other phone, since I tried a bunch of them before choosing the Sony.
Nothing dumber than choosing a product for the brand or the name in fact. Also, each to their own. The fact that Sony doesn't do as the others is a really good point for people that don't like what 80% of the market does.

AnonD-804996, 04 Feb 2020Who even says "Yes, I want a Sony smartphone? Who are these... moreBelieve it or not, Sony is still a huge name in everything besides cellphones. Even your run-of-the-mill Xiaomi uses a Sony sensor that is loved by Xiaomi fans and some even defend those sensors.

The problem with Sony has been mostly marketing and pricing. Some friend of mine who likes Xiaomi because it is cheap has eyed out some Xperia's before but hasnt got them since they are more expensive than what he expected.

At least with Xperia 5, they got it somewhat right. At 650-800$ is a price range where they can fight back.

Well Xperia 5 and Xperia 1 are amazing phones. Happy for Sony. Waiting for a compact version now in 2020

I welcome any good news about Sony

This uptick in sales pr... moreThat was true in the early 2010s but seeing how the Chinese manufacturers overthrew the other players, Sony, Lg and HTC and even Samsung, it was inevitable. With high efficiency and low-cost manufacturing from the Chinese manufacturers, the old players won't simply be able to cope up as these companies are from countries with high-labor costs.

Who even says "Yes, I want a Sony smartphone? Who are these people? Years ago "Xperia" was a desirable brand. Now it's like a vaporware. We know it exists, but its presence on market is basically non existent.

Nokia is a huge telecommunications company, Like Ericsson. BlackBerry is a software company focusing on secure software mostly for the enterprise world, and HTC, well they stick around, still.

                                      Samsung will always be bigger.

.alpha, 04 Feb 2020At least SONY isn't going away as a company like HTC, BB, NokiaSony won't, but Sony mobile, maybe. This uptick in sales probably will keep the division for a bit longer, but their days are numbered.

The sad part is that Sony themselves is killing the mobile division. It's the same story with the Walkman, and how iPod took over the consumer portable audio market away from Sony. Sony has all the parts, movie studio, music label, gaming, TV tech, camera tech, audio, all the necessary parts to make a holistic product. But they failed to make those divisions work together. In fact, those divisions are killing each other (ie. the music label killed the portable audio side, Alpha team refusing to share tech with the mobile unit), thus they cannot react fast enough (let alone innovate) when market/consumer trend changes. Sony could've been more than even Samsung today.
