06 February 2020
That's the marketing name for the 9-in-1 pixel-binning technology.

I really don't understand why you would want 100x zoom.. You can't take a picture without a tripod

I just asked you that question because you said you always thought they should do 4-1 CFA with 9-1 binning, wondering how it would be possible to carry out such a binning process if the sensor had a quad CFA.

Hah, I knew it! I know it would be a Nona Bayer when I first read about the 9-to-1 pixel binning.

                Additionally
Samsung's tetracell exactly means the same as what's meant by Sony's quad byer.

Tetracell means groups of 4 photosites at the CFA level, so this nonacell should mean photosites grouped into groups of 9, it also doesn't have the same name as the HMX, it's called HM1 IIRC.
Anyway assuming it uses the same CFA as the HMX, or that the rumor was wrong and it just is the HMX, then I think there's more color resolution to be extracted than 12MP in the bayer sense, I just don't know how exactly the algorithm should be designed. It should definitely be more complex than binning to 27MP, but then even RYYB could be binned.

                        Samsung S20 Ultra > 108MP/9 = 12MP, 0,8*3 = 2,4
                        Xiaomi Note 10 > 108MP/4 = 27MP, 0,8*2 = 1,6
                        Huawei P40 Pro Premium 64MP/4 = 16MP, 1,93?
Now it's time to see the size of the sensor?

Meh, actually not impressed... I want at least double quadcell with a 16 in 4 in 1 pixel binning a.k.a. quad-quadcell or sexagintacell using a camera sensor shooting 192 MP photos reducing to better 48 MP photos and making the best, brightest and most clear 12 MP photos. And this as a minimum. I prefer the quad-nonacell or nona-quadcell (36 in 9 in 1 or 36 in 4 in 1 pixel binning respectively) using a 432 MP camera for creating even sharper 12 MP photos. But even that won't be enough. I wish to be created a triple nonacell with triple quadcell twist or quad-nona-quad-nona-quad-nonacell (46 656 in 11 664 in 1296 in 324 in 36 in 9 in 1 pixel binning) using the modest 559 872 MP sensor for really ultimate 12 MP pics which may will be acceptable for me... :-P

PS: Guys, who else thinks that this start getting ridiculous... xD
