They sow power in Huawei , and decided to follow that path, making alternative, for their own security.

Maybe it won't be as good as they hope, but look, they do own over 40% of market.
Question is will they turn back to Google and go all in, or just have it as a another option.

NLB, 06 Feb 2020People are afraid of spying and the fun part is still huawe... moremay i remind you that back in 2018 apple and amazon data servers were found to be embedded with spy chips, and those servers were made by huawei and zte. back in 2013-2016 here in the philippines, multiple government agencies and university homepages were hijacked to contain chinese propaganda , and it was found that those agencies were using huawei and zte made servers as well. a good demonstration of how bad this red country's monitoring and censorship of its own people is the recent wuhan outbreak wherein they have witheld and heavily censored information until it was already too late.

        That's pretty bold.
Yet, major, actually global actors teamed up previously and failed to disrupt OS and services status quo. Currently, that's just China. You can extend this to Asia since these companies make the bulk of their sales there. Currently, there's nothing to push devs and content providers to support this, except if these two markets have any value to them. For a lot of content providers, that's not the case and/or it's not worth the effort to do double work on supporting the GDSA initiative and other, firmly established platforms.

I think this will have limited success for now.

And don't say recession. Recession is a slowdown in economy, not its collapse

Apple even refused to cooperate with the FBI and provide them with data access after the terrorist attacks in California...
There is no moral equivalency between the world of liberal democracies and life dictatorships like China and North Korea. No matter how much FUD is spread from there.

China has more people than the US and EU combined. They also have number one economy in the world. Huawei can do well even without Android. They should focus more on growing their market share in India. There are 2.7 billion people in China and India combined, that's one third of the world's population.

Anonymous, 06 Feb 2020Ha, we are supposed to trust an app store ran by the Chines... morePeople are afraid of spying and the fun part is still huawei hardware in Germanny, UK an The Netherlands had no issues for 3 years of testing. only one leak that as not abused but find by the UK and that one was closed. No data lost or so whatever. This also include the software to use the hardware

On the other hand lots ot US hardware like cisco or maybe Apple leaking al the way and if something fix it seems another door goes open. This was years ago the reason to swap hardware like cisco and Apple is just populair so we sell it. Also on the software hand like apps . We talking about not even whatsapp, facebook but also Google. Using google gmail to buy stuff is giving away unwilling you info about what you buy, what you paid for, where it was delivered and so on.

At least We Chat for example just say that the app is checked by US goverment and that is by far more transparant then all these populair apps from the US. Trump is just afraid to lose that but the US is more afraid that they are in some area's a few years behind and that china is treating the rest like biotechnology product development for example.

So ask your self why is there a ban ,not for privacy or spying because that is not true ,what is true we know US does it on a big scale and we are fine with it.

Happy to be in country without so much bans.

why did they wait so long?

Ha, we are supposed to trust an app store ran by the Chinese People's Army? They spy on the locals, ban most Western platforms (Facebook, Google and so on) and now they want your apps on a Chinese store?

I am trying to get rid of all the useless Xiaomi apps which duplicate Google's as is. It's beyond me why anyone who doesn't live in China and is able to use alternatives, would go for this.
