g6 user, 18 Feb 2020but they are not banning apple Einstein They may not be banning sales to apple, but if you remove a revenue stream from company, if it is not replaced quickly the company will fail and stop trading inturn also stop supplying apple with its chips. Apple would have to go elsewhere or inject cash into TSMC to keep it going. costly for apple either way.

            >the strategically important 5G grid
There's nothing strategically essential about 5G. Optic fiber+LTE+Wifi6 covers at least 99% of 5G use cases. 5G is a politically charged arms race, heavily subsidized by China no less, to the detriment of consumers paying out of their wallets.

            >Huawei has the most advanced technology available
Common rumor, and false. While it's among the top players, its technology is not "most advanced", much less irreplaceable.

            >it has become known that for years, the NSA has been eavesdropping not only on China’s president but on Huawei as well
How is that even possible? The article doesn't explain, nor provides a source that does.
OTOH, Huawei's tech theft, sanctioned by the Party:

To the extent that Huawei is only allowed to touch certain peripherals of the network. The UK has kept crucial communication lines clear of Huawei influence.

Also, this should come as a wake-up call to not just Chinese but anyone in business with Americans. As long as they're exploiting/spying on you, it's fine. But the moment you surpass them, bam! Their government shuts you down.

This effectively equates USA to goblins from Harry Potter.

For those who didn't read/forgot, the little goblins who run the Gringotts wizard bank, and manufactured many things, believed that everything which their customers 'even paid for', is actually "borrowed" or on a "lease." And hence still belonged to them.

                  They were not very nice.

Coming back to USA, what kind of stupid move is this? If US stops supplying manufacturing equipment to TSMC, force it to shut down, doesn't manufacturing stops for "all companies" ?

What happens to AMD, Nvidia, Apple, Qualcomm, and prettying much every 'American' company which relies on getting it's architecture manufactured from TSMC?

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

So the American government is trying to shoot down two birds with one bullet - except one of those birds are actually an innocent Taiwanese company that is just using a chip-making machine made in US to do their jobs and should have nothing to do with all the political BS surrounding US and China. This is another level of ridiculousness, but I must say I hadn't really expected them to be reasonable in the first place.

It competes with Apple and Qualcomm and other US chipmakers. Huawei is the only Chinese phone company that does this. All the rest rely on Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors. It's extremely anti-competitive behaviour that will drive the Chinese to accelerate that chip fabrication capabilities which they are already working very hard on at the moment.

US wants a Taiwanese company to stop manufacturing chips for the Chinese? I wonder what makes US scared with the Chinese.

I have also seen no evidence that Huawei is spying on its users but plenty that Apple, Google and facebook does. Google and Facebook make their money from collecting user data.
