Flashback: Oppo Find 7 had the better 1440p screen, introduced VOOC fast charging

08 March 2020
The Find 7 also beat the LG G3 in terms of processing power (despite using the same chipset).

Sales could be affected by several factors, but screen quality isn't one of them. Besides, it's not my problem that your eyes aren't good enough to spot major differences between 2K and 4K. Last time I've used a 4K screen smartphone, 2K just didn't have that "super sharp" impact anymore as it did when I first tried one. Even having used the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the Xperia Premiums still felt a generation ahead when it comes to screen quality. But I guess whatever I say here, you're just going to disregard it again and again, so it's pointless to tell you the reality case.
Anyway, if general consumers are to be asked, Sony screens would easily attract them the most, as proven by an unbiased social experiment: https://androidcommunity.com/sony-xperia-xz3-report-best-display-among-the-worlds-leading-smartphones-20180902/amp/

If Sony invested more on marketing, then they could've easily matched Samsung and Apple in sales, if not completely overtake them.

Just in case your lazy damn fingers couldn't search for it, then here it goes.
Just a bit better marketing and Sony can regain their reputation and lead - we all know they can do it, they just don't do it now.
The only one dreaming is you who keeps on watching Sony products and bashes them because your favorite brand cannot do the same masterpiece as your low-class company.

Maybe you should come and talk when Sony gives 120hz officially.(none of that 120hz locked or gimmicky 90hz software interpolation)

But 4k is just overkill and unnecessary on a sub 7 inch display.
Screen size above 10-12 inches can utilize 4k.

Don't forget the craziest and most amazing feature ever: Bring your own OS. Oppo offered ColorOS, open source stock Android, and maintained a list of 3rd party operating systems on their own web site. They even created a special bootloader to help you unbrick the phone after accidents.

On the downside, the screen was dim and there were just 4 LTE bands. It was essentially useless at outdoor events because the screen would be invisible and its one compatible LTE band would be saturated. Initial versions had an obsolete NVRAM partition that couldn't hold many apps.

Oppo's LTE bands are still a problem today. OnePlus makes boring iClones with global radios while the other BBK phones have interesting features but regional radios.

The main problem of Oppo an Vivo phones are after sales service.

Last quarter of 2019 showed Sony's improvement in sales with the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5, and with these even better products, it's just gonna get better overall.

Even then, your argument sux and it doesn't fit in to everything that I have said. Maybe you should try to learn some argumentative fallacies before trying to talk.

Shadocx, 08 Mar 2020IDK why you're comparing Galaxy S10 to Xperia 1, you do rea... moreExynos or not, Samsung should be delivering the same level of performance and efficiency to their smartphones regardless of the given hardware. If their Exynos chipsets couldn't match the performance of Snapdragon counterparts, then why bother making variants of those? Besides, Snapdragon is only available in the US, while Exynos is for the rest of the world, so GSMArena tested the variant that majority of the people in the world would be able to purchase.

I was referring to the original Xperia 1 from last year, and both that and the S10 are 1 year old already, and it's definitely fair to compare both of them. Once the Xperia 1 Mark II comes out, we'll see the results, but given Sony's track record of battery optimizations, I'm certain that the new model would once again ace the battery life test.

4K is useless in terms of seeing pixels, but the overall picture quality itself is much superior due to Sony's BRAVIA enhancement algorithms, which upscales low-resolution contents to near 4K quality. Meanwhile, Samsung couldn't even get 120Hz to work in QHD+ without sacrificing battery life. Sony, on the other hand, has been tested to go beyond 60Hz when gaming, and it works all the way back from the Xperia X series in 2016, where even the mid range XA series are capable of going beyond 60Hz when the hardware is capable.

Perhaps you should first try a 4K screen, then you can definitely feel the big jump in quality compared to non-4K smartphones.

The phone came out a year ago, you should know by now that the Exynos has both inferior performance and battery life compared to the Snapdragon.
IMO 4K is still useless when your display is smaller than 10", the bigger the display, the less likely you are to watch it from a very close distance.
The only time I notice the pixels on a 1080p OLED display is when I'm in bed, I shove the phone in my face.

Whackcar, 08 Mar 2020I disagree. 4K screens are overkill on phones/phablets. Abs... moreOh sure, they are overkill until Samsung and Apple adopts the technology. Duh! Same exact excuse again and again....
Xperia 1's battery life, according to GSMArena, is similar to the Galaxy S10's, which has:
                            A. Larger battery
                            B. Smaller screen
                            C. Lower resolution display
In fact, there are times that the Xperia 1's display would run higher than 60Hz because it has been evident already that Sony has been using high refresh rate screens way back from the Xperia X series, but the software locks them down to 60Hz. Gaming, for instance, feels smoother than 60fps on recent Xperia devices despite the lack of claim for high refresh rates.

At this day and age of smartphones, 4K becomes more and more in demand due to the rapidly increasing size of the phone screens. 6.5" is large enough to show a difference between a 2K and a 4K screen, let alone a 1080p one.
And as we can already guess, the technology and capability is already here, all it ever takes is for manufacturers to do it.
The fact that you people are still accepting 2K screens for $1000 in 2020 is ridiculous and a BIG scam from greedy companies.

I had the Oppo Find 7a.

                              I loved it so much.

Nobody knew of Oppo at that point, or even One Plus. But my Oppo lasted 3 years before it died completely. 😢

I had both 7a and 7, both is proper flagship..
                                Only software quality is lacking.

Absolutely provide no improvement to viewing experience. Only reduce battery life & gaming performance. I've used the XZ Premium in the past, and i never did miss it's display.

Having a 4K display is like having 12+ GB of RAM on your phone. It looks good on paper, but doesn't improve your experience in real-life usage.

4K displays would be good on tablets or even foldables, as they would actually benefit from the additional pixels.
