abc_to_xyz, 07 Mar 2020Recently we were going through past HTC phones and they use... moreI seond that, even XDA developers site is made for (in that time), well, HTC XDA.. Also, first phone in the world with Android os (i think 2008) - HTC. But hey, time changes, now we have Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, also sub-brands, Honor, Redmi, Poco(phone), RealMe, so OEMs, like HTC, Sony, LG can go where original Nokia went years ago..

Recently we were going through past HTC phones and they used to be so good. I remember I had a huge crush over super-flaggy HTC Diamond back in the Windows Mobile days. HTC was among the pioneers of Android-kicking-era. I remember oozing over HTC Desire HD's huge display (of its time). Some of my mates had HTC Wildfires around same time and they were super trendy. My family's first battery sealed Android was HTC Rhyme, which was of decent quality considering the time. And they even had docking charger in box. Even HTC's last actual innovation attempt (One M8/M9) had quality front-firing speakers and larger pixel camera, both of the things ended up being benchmarks for flagships even if the phones were plagued by overheating issues.
HTC just stopped trying hard to edge competition, its strange. Without even putting up a fight, they are just dwindling away from Android scene.

*Psst* Do not tell HTC that its outrageously priced consumer VR/AR/MR (the next "R") is dead. Shhh!

They could convince many people if they become the brand with quick Android updates for example. Not many brands differ in this regard. No idea whether they have enough software developers though.

Sad to see HTC in this situation but it's no surprise. Apart from a couple of (local) budget and midrange phones, we haven't seen much. Last year there even wasn't a high end flagship and it's been silent for a long time.
