Huawei P40 Pro will have two cams with large Sony sensors, plus two zoom cameras

      In my opinion, Huawei own image processing already great in low light Auto mode (compare to others), so i dont think GCAM will help much. Its about the hardware setup.

        The context of the discussion is telephoto cameras (in low light).
        I never mentioned quality of pics from main or Ultrawide sensors since I know they are top notch.

        Gcam can be installed on other phones with telephoto camera to fix the default average image quality in low light through telephoto.
        We have seen from tests that P30 pro absolutely struggled in low light with TELEPHOTO SENSOR. Only S20 ultra gave great pics thru telephoto in night. The 2x optical sensors on other phones don't even work in low light as manufacturers are simply giving 2x digital zoom crop from main sensor in low light.(OnePlus, IPhone, etc.)

        Here the existence of gcam could have improved the otherwise weak quality pics at 5x from telephoto sensor on p30 pro (IN NIGHT TIME). Oppo isn't using a huge sensor for TELEPHOTO either, so it's 5x optical zoom pics will be comparable to S20 ultra and p30 pro in daylight but in night time, it will struggle. But, we can get working gcam on Oppo so image quality in night will be good via gcam. Not so much on Huawei.

            Huawei doesnt even need any GCAM, as it uses RYYB with bigger sensor on a flagship since P30 (P20 RGB). It also doesnt even needs any Night Mode to begin with, just Auto can do wonders. - https://www.theverge.com/2019/4/1/18290215/huawei-p30-pro-camera-night-low-light-mode-photos

            I can see GCAM goodness in achieving great RAW files for others, but considering Huawei uses RYYB, an advance color correction are needed in RAW processing, which lack in GCAM. So GCAM is useless for Huawei device even if its working.

                But we are currently living in 2020, not in 2019.
                But other users certainly have a problem in admitting that their beloved Huawei will perform worse in low light coz the telephoto sensor is small(most likely this year too).

                Atleast other phones have gcam which can unlock good low light performance despite the small sensor (as they have done on budget devices) But with Huawei, even that's not possible.

                  That means u just admit how more garbage telephoto lens that Samsung provide last year.

                  And gave feedback about a phone thats not even out yet, well, its just pure childish.

                  As for me, I dont care about any periscope camera zooming. Beyond x5 zoom (125mm) is not my type of photography. A high quality 28-85mm is. (1x - 3x zoom).

One more thing to add, Kirin 990 is substantially better at handling noise and retaining sharper details in poorly lit environment than P30 Pro's K980 and this applies to the telephoto lens as well. So just in case if you're considering to bring up P30 Pro as a reference, well it wouldn't be that helpful.

                        In daytime, P40 Pro will most likely have an upper hand in terms of overall zoom performance: Better digital zoom between 1x and 2.9x, the primary medium range telephoto lens guaranteeing its superiority up to 3.9x, and the secondary extreme long range telephoto lens that helps it regain the advantage in detail from 10x.

                        Now some may say S20 Ultra can offer better image between 4x and 9.9x, but this is P30 Pro zoom argument all over again - Is having one long range telephoto automatically make the phone superiour to others with shorter telephoto lenses when it comes zoom capability? To me, it's a no. In fact I still think my regular P30 (2x super res, 3x telephoto) takes more balanced therefore more practical approach towards zoom compared to the Pro variant simply because I shoot photos at 1x, 2x and 3x far more often than any longer zoom lengths on my phones.

If you buy a smartph... moreYes, I buy flagship phones primarily for the best camera system possible at the moment. Three other important things for me are battery life, speakers and screen quality. Good design is what I'm looking for too. Google services / apps are a must for me as well because I use them every day and don't want to be bothered to sideload them somehow on $1000 phone. Other things like RAM amount, storage size, UFS 2.1 or 3.0, 90Hz or higher frequency screen, notch, blazing fast performance etc are of my least concerns. I wish Huawei all the best but personally I think they will never recover from this ban ordeal. Americans know exactly how to destroy someone or turns someones life / business into hell :).

If you buy a smartphone primarily just for the phone function (sarcasm intended) and the camera module with all it's capabilities and features, all the other functionality tags along for the ride (to include the lack of Google Play Services). It's not like you can not use apps at all, just not Google's ecosystem. Huawei is going to make a comeback. And when they do, the U.S. will regret it.
