1.22 micron pixel size and 1/1.28" sensor is correct.

1/1.28" sensor? I can guarantee seeing a 1" sensor coming back again after the Panasonic Lumix CM1 sooner than later. But it's still a crying shame that all those smartphone cameras with big Megapixels are meant for Quad Bayer (or in Samsung's Nonacell case, Nona Bayer) binning. To this day, I'm still not impressed with any of them when it comes to photo quality in terms of crisp detail and sharpness.

New Huawei flagships are certainly very interesting and cool. The only serious issue with them is still lack of Google services out of the box. It will affect the sales badly for sure.

While I'm with you about Sony's o... moreSony smartphone sales will not improve and grow just because there are very few places in the world left where you can buy a Sony smartphone. At the same time, you can buy iPhone or Samsung phone in nearly every corner of this planet. That's one of the ways to success, probably the most important one.

This phone is competing with the S20 ultra which has the best telephoto on the market and clicks great pictures in day or night simply because it has got big sensor with Dual pixel AF.

Huawei fails to click good pictures through telephoto camera in night coz of the small sensor. This is why they aren't bragging about the telephoto sensors size like they are about their main cam and cine cam.

Anonymous, 09 Mar 2020So you pay a $1000 for a phone and have to download one app... moreYes, there is a reason why the playstore exist.
There is a reason for the existence of millions of apps out there not just the stock apps that came with the phone.

You don't have to walk through 50 miles of desert without water to download those apps. Just one click. Keep your braindead logic to yourself and quit whining about issues that can be fixed by a third party app.

Anonymous, 10 Mar 2020Looks like you two cant read. My point is that what you... moreThe Last Oracle said Sony's SMARTPHONE cameras lack good computational image processing which prevents them from competing with other phone companies in camera department. You then decided to make a counterargument by talking about how Sony's DEDICATED cameras don't employ such processing and tried to imply that computational photography is an evil, but this is completely irrelevant because phones and dedicated cameras are used in an entirely different way therefore how the former handles the image cannot be (and shouldn't be) applied to the latter. So I proceeded to point out how off-topic your comment was, and now you're criticising HDR based on wrong assumptions that it somehow oversaturates colours and makes the image look warmer. LMFAO.
HDR is mostly about exposure stacking and tone mapping. If the image gets oversaturated then that's due to the post processing that phone cameras apply after the stacking process to make them look pleasing to average consumer's eyes, end of story. And small sensors capture very limited dynamic range and RAW images produced by a phone won't look as natural without combining multiple exposures, otherwise highlights will be blown out and the shadows stay too noisy. Human eyes don't have such issues, right? Now got that?

I doubt that the specs are correct, they are slightly inconsistent. I assume that the sensor is slightly smaller than Samsung's 108 megapixel sensor and that the pixel size is actually 1.12 micrometer and not 1.22 , but that's just speculation.

Nick Tagataka, 09 Mar 2020Extended ISO. Duh.Mobile phones already have weak performance with iso800.
When would you use iso 128.000 or 256.000?

Also it is fake iso. Sensor that small cant reach that value.

My point is that what you get from Galaxy and Iphone is not the real scene.
Cameras have more DR than phones, still will choose to preserve foreground or background as user choice.

Phones with weaker HDR have closer behaviour to real cameras than these two.
Not even the best camera will provide you bright face and blue sky same time if you point against sun.

HDR+ tricks will have impact on WB. As you push it , colours get saturated and warm.

Pixel = boost contrast, black objects are so black that even on LCD looks pure black like what we see on oled screen.

Galaxy 20 = I wonder where I can find sky that blue in daylight, as blue as Pepsi can. Also the warm yellowish tones for green and gray.

Iphone = awful skin tones that even PhoneArena does not like.

Cameras are made to capture scene as it is as much as possible, reality is not punchy/saturated.

And now after restructuring in the company and when Sony Mobile become a part of the whole Sony Electronics division (including Alpha), I can see good progress with Xperia 1 and 5. And we have to keep in mind that these 2 phones are the first fruits, almost half baked products.
Sony Alpha quickly became huge success. And now the same people guide Mobile Division as well. I think Sony smartphone sales will now improve and grow.
