Sony haven't broken any boundary by producing this sensor, for them IMX700 is just another sub-1-inch sensor they were asked to make by other manufacturers. Huawei on the other hand adopted it on a mobile phone and forced other companies to have larger sensors on their future smartphones, thus pushing the boundary forward.

It doesnt matter if it made by Sony, you cant deny they provide one of the most advance tech in a smartphone camera world. What matters are the execution decision.
Even an actual camera from different brands out there (Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Hasselblad) mostly use Sony CMOS sensor. But they are difference in terms of quality & tech uses. Same goes to Huawei. They got praised simply they provide the best camera hardware setup all around.

Though they did manage to make ISOCELL sensors of roughly the same quality, which does deserve praises (I personally used Samsung flagships with both kinds of sensors but this is subjective). But nobody deserves praises for buying what someone else is selling.
My whole point isn't about the quality of the materials. It's about who deserves to be praised for the quality of the components, which is Sony.

seems everyone focused only about main camera ... but forgot about that nasty ultrawide camera it does have the biggest sensor yet on ultrawide.
Huawei is on the right direction , I hope they release their next SoC with latest arm arch + harmony OS so that we have more competition , cause qualcomm seems to slow down a bit when huawei got banned
also we ... competition is always good for consumers.

Each year, Huawei got the most advance Sony's IMX sensor in a smartphone. Even more than inside Sony's own smartphone itself. At least we know Huawei using quality & expensive tech in their phone along with other hardware.
Apart from using Isocell in S20 Ultra, all previous Samsung flagship use Sony IMX as well, especially the Dual Pixel tech, so what are the difference back then?

It's more of a collaboration. And Sony has the hard job of actually solving the problems. Huawei's merely asking Sony for something new, as if I was to ask you to bake me a cake with a brand new flavour. I'm not inovative, you are. Then I add some more specific information like "I want a new chocolate cake". You're the one who will choose the kind of chocolate, all the ingredients, how to mix them, how to bake them, and you pick the icing too. All I did was asking you something. I wouldn't deserve any praise except for enticing you to do it.

I also say, in several decades of using phones, of all types, I have never had a volume key break. Charging ports, yes, hence why I like a 3.5mm Jack and wireless charging. I get that the goal is to end up with a buttonless device, but I'm ok with volume and power buttons.

The idea & concept are from the Huawei itself. They pay Sony to built & design it for them. Thats why the 'IMX' series for Huawei's flagship are just exclusive for them.

Huawei will just make it more premium, giving 3x and 10x. Wish though their resolution and apertures will be better, I really like that mi notes tele cameras are both with f2, wont expect bokeh like 105mm f1.4 on FF but should be more usable than f2.4/3.5
