It's possible. I would say that it doesn't make sense to release a chip just for a phone (and an honor one) and in mid-cycle but Samsung did the same with the 9825. So, who knows.
I'm still towards this GB been fake.

Though another possibility is that this is actually a new chip where a further improvement has been made in CPU and memory performance (like the changes made to Kirin 990 from 980), hence it scores simply higher than Kirin 990 on benchmarks.
Nonetheless, we should wait for the official announcement to reveal all the details about this phone before making any deeper assumptions.

Nick Tagataka, 16 Mar 2020Why doubt?1) Look at the GB5 scores for the mate 30 pro; it is the exact same chip and it scores around 2800 to 2920 (PM) consistently (and makes sense considering last gen SoC). This is scoring almost 10% more than their highest result in Performance Mode for the same test.
2) Look at the 865 scores. New cortex A77, around 20% improvement in multicore over A76 and it scores around 3200.
So how can an older chip score the same?
Even the clock frequency is pretty much the same if we sum all their 4 cores, so we can discard that as the reason.
So, or this is a cherry-picked chip (higher bin), a fake, or they are cheating again.

That crown goes to Exynos 9820/9825, at least among high end SoCs. The regular Kirin 990 is ahead of SD855 in overall CPU and GPU performance, though it's unclear how much better the 5G variant actually performs.

Had the p20 pro myself.
Never said that the phone lagged in terms of Ui, but lagged behind in comparison to competitor chipsets in 2020.

Atleast on other devices, one can unlock bootloader to get rid of this spying and put everything behind a firewall. But with Huawei, you can't even do that.
No way to get extra protection, security or uninstall bloatware with locked bootloader.

This phone is borderline a feature phone outside China. A 1,200 buck feature phone.
