Anonymous, 23 Mar 2020Taking a photo from a close object is very different story.... moreYou are both right and wrong.

'FF 5.8 at this FL, cant do any blur.'
    - Nope. When its get near to the subject, it still got the creamy natural blur effects. Its just less blur when you far away.

And about smartphone sensors, when its naturally blur (especially with the big sensor) yes I agree they indeed deepen the blur effects, as if the aperture number imitates FF sensor. Some brands does it good (Sony & Huawei), but as you can see from S20 Ultra, i can not say the same (blur transition out of focus, with warping blur effects caused by the bad lens quality).

As for the 'portrait', 'aperture' or 'background defocus' feature is a different story. That is indeed faking the bokeh effects. But when it works with good edge detection, it still amaze me (unless u pixel peeping it lol).

Mine with 1/2.3" can blur half scene if I put 20 centimers away from an object.

Camera with proper lens after pointed to a person will blur background, no matter if person is 1,5m or 4m away.

Phones cannot do it. You can point main camera of S20 Ultra to someone and nothing will happen, just edges will have bit of blur.
They will not be blur all over the scene behind the person.

1/1.2" sensor + 26mm + f1.7 is equivalent to FF + 5.8. And FF 5.8 at this FL, cant do any blur.

This is why phones have protrait modes, unless you use it, you will never blur the behind of someone.

You can tell it's not a synthetic blur effect when photos have clean focus rolloff and there's no edge detection errors. I wouldn't say that the bokeh looks particularly great on those photos though, it's pretty good quality for smartphone lens but still far from what you can achieve with 1" compact cameras let alone DLSRs.

At that time you suddenly threw me some completely irrelevant argument that was not related to the question I was asking to the other user, so I asked you why you decided to direct your comment at me, but you couldn't answer in the end. The same goes for rooting, you were spewing tons of BS on how gaining superuser access somehow makes the phone *more* secure and I simply corrected you. Where did all those Huawei argument come from? Your imagination again?

Now back to the topic of the telephoto sensor on P40 Pro. Right now you're stating that P40 Pro will have a weaker telephoto lens than S20 Ultra as if it's a FACT even though you don't have a complete spec sheet nor full resolution samples to prove your point. It's fine that you complain about it after the actual product comes out and if you find its performance underwhelming, but attacking a certain product before its release without knowing what it will have is just beyond ridiculous. I'm not talking about who will eventually turn out to be correct or wrong, but rather criticising your general attitude when you're making a statement and having a discussion with others. You being a brand hater and not being able to handle any logics are not my problems, so don't take it out on me please.

bet they also won't fix the "no vertical zoom control in landscape mode" issue.

Shadocx, 23 Mar 2020And it gives the same results as the P30 Pro, really? If u look into details, not exactly. What i observe from those samples are, apart from the 'Leica look' (warmer, contrasty & clipped highlights), its clean details without oil-painting looks, greater natural bokeh because of the big sensor & nice color rendition (not just oversaturate).

If you're into films & cinematic, u'll understand what i mean.
