Motorola revolutionized the flip phone, so why not just do it with a different less popular form factor (A.K.A Swivel form).

So it's okay for Nokia to cut costs, but if Motorola does it you're oh-so-happy to write an obituary? All your features mean zilch for a hungry person and you rich kids can go on about your megapixels and abbreviations forever for all I care. The corporations love you consumers. Speaking of "ultimate" phones compare a low-end Motorola to a low-end Nokia and see who wins.

Don't pull off your crappy GERMAN PRIDE POS in this forum. Nobody cares about Nokia cutting cost strategy, it would benefit Nokia anyway.
Anyway, who cares about design these days? It's all about the functions and features that counts. The 'King of All Phones' Nokia N95 has been with us for almost 2 years, yet its capabilities are not yet fully utilized. Firmware upgrade v20 made it the "ultimate" phone, we have yet to see more from this legend.

Motorola's phones are poor in reliability and quality. It is certainly no match for Nokia and Samsung if they dont adopt a new strategy in product creation and development.

motorola is and maybe was the great innovator of mobile phone technology.. but just as ford was the originator of the automobiles and lost its forte to its competition it is obvious that motorola has lost their place to their foreign competitors in manufacturing phones... i admit motorola has the design aspects and the build quality down but something that they do not have is software quality... im sure you would agree that motorola's slow user interface and the buggy software components to it has been a major factor as to why alot of customers hate them so much.... its sad to say the least that motorola has yet to make BIG changes in their division for improving software technology... samsung apparently had a phase where their phones weren't selling much because they were using the same software and user interface tech. and so they were trying new things to make phones sell by overlapping hardware tech over software tech. but in the end they did make some BIG changes by having a partnership with criox and so it produced fruitful outcomes(taking moto's second spot)... so in a way i kinda saw this coming since motorola never took some changes seriously and now look where its leading them~

To previous poster: You are totally wrong mate, Sagem have the most stupid and unstable software platform in the whole GSM phones, and not SE use Sagem softare, Sagem use SE software!!! I'm in this busines for almost 10 years and believe me, Nokia and Siemens (old Siemens) rocks!!!

The image, which dominates the front cover of Thursday's Süddeutsche Zeitung and other German newspapers, symbolizes the wave of grief and indignation sparked in the western German city of Bochum by the news that Nokia is to close its plant in the city.
The Finnish cell phone manufacturer unexpectedly announced Tuesday that it would close its plant in Bochum in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia by the middle of the year, with the loss of around 2,300 jobs. A further 2,000 jobs at the plant's suppliers are also in danger. The company is moving production to a new plant in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where wage costs are a fraction of those in Germany, with other functions going to Hungary and Finland. Hundreds of employees demonstrated outside the Bochum plant Wednesday in protest against the closure.

German weekly Stern quoted its survey as indicating on Wednesday that 56 per cent of Germans backed a boycott against Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia.
Stern added some 34 per cent of the respondents had said that Nokia's decision to close a factory in Bochum had no bearing on their next handset purchase decision.
About 68 per cent of the respondents were reported to have said that the closure of the Bochum factory had badly marred Nokia's reputation, with one in three saying the affair would have no negative impact on Nokia's public image.
Research company Forsa had been commissioned by Stern to interview 1,000 Germans.

...for closing a factory grew on Saturday with the head of one of the parties in the governing coalition joining the calls for a boycott.
"As far as I am concerned there will be no Nokia mobile phone in my house," said Kurt Beck, head of the left-wing Social Democrats, or SPD, coalition partners with Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union, or CDU.
"It is not my style to call for a boycott of a product. But for me, and this is doubtless the case with many other Germans, the name of Nokia has not sounded good for the past week," Beck told the mass circulation Bild am Sonntag in an interview to appear on Sunday.
"I don't want to be reminded of the incredible source of anger every time I'm on the phone," he added.
Finland-based Nokia, the world's largest maker of mobile phones, plans to close its factory in Bochum in western Germany with the loss of 2,300 jobs in order to shift production to Romania where costs are lower.
The planned closure has sparked resentment in Germany, with the country's DGB trade unions federation calling on Thursday for a nationwide boycott.
Horst Seehofer, agriculture and consumer protection minister, has said he might ban Nokia phones in his ministry and Peter Struck, head of the SPD in parliament, said he has returned his phone.
Both the SPD and CDU are currently attempting to differentiate their policy positions ahead of key state elections in the states of Hesse and Lower Saxony on Jan. 27, followed by a third in the city state of Hamburg.

I agree with 'nicksti', nokia may have an arsenal of features but motorola really bought the sex appeal in cellphones, it would be a shame to lose such a pioneer &innovater

Motorola is the worst manufacture in phones. i sale cell phones and the majority of problems, complain, dealing with dumb ppl that ask stupid question like whats wrong with my phone and guess what they got a Motorola phone. so yeah don't tell me moto makes so good phones, they don't! is piece of **** period. they might of been the first to come with cell phones but hey is just like sports once you have a nice run is time to retired.. besides this only affect the mobile side of motorola not the whole corporation of motorola, they don't only makes mobile phones so moto would still be here for a long time just slowy dieing down.

Motorola wanted to buy SAGEM cos SAGEM is well known for having the most reliable & stabile software!SE buys software from SAGEM cos they know that SAGEM can not be matched by any other BIG company!

Motorola should just die. This is good for the whole motorola before it brings the whole company to the buttom of the sea.
Better cut few jobs right now before cut the whole motorola in pieces.

Don't speak about Sagem , because they are founded by the French Goverment , in last years there were debates abou selling Sagem Telecomunication to Motorola , but the ideea fall , now Sagem is working with SE and Vodafone .
Hope that the new buyers of Motorola , should kepp the original name and logo , like the case of Philips Mobile and China Electronics Company .
