Shui8, 31 Mar 2020I've got the sample, see my reply to Morsel below.Thank you, I love macro photography but the older I get the harder it is to get down to the bugs level , I'll often just lay in the grass or woodland looking for creepy crawlies

So you rotate between macro, wide, ultrawide, etc then the zoom / telephoto would be optical.

That was the last bit of message I didn't send previously, take care

Anonymous, 31 Mar 2020I'll have to google that super macro mod, I've never seen it in ... moreI've got the sample, see my reply to Morsel below.

Morsel, 31 Mar 2020That's not a macro camera. It's just a feature. Also isn't it ... moreEverything that capable capture things on focus below 3cm, called as 'macro'. Main sensor focusing are usually limited to 4cm. Sure u can cropped it after taken, but the distortion angle are not ideal the limited FL.

These are some of my samples taken by vanilla Mate 20, using 'Super Macro' on its UWA lens. - https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1C3GixmJhB6aIGHFw7o5tf1yblJdptYgR
Yes, the spider sitting on my jeans pants lol. The details are limited because of its hardware, but i've seen way way superior macro taken by P30 Pro.

Morsel, 31 Mar 2020You certainly know Cameras better than Smartphone. The way you t... moreI only flicked through the posts , I didn't know there was a conversation going on.
I just thought you or whoever said basically in general that bigger sensors can't do macro as good.
I didn't mean I know how to make the macro any better on a phone or how to incorporate it on the main sensor.

I thought I was just adding an opinion about sensor size in general.
I know nothing about phone cameras as they don't appeal to me, I like slr cameras because I feel more involved in taking photos plus I like the maintenance side of them.

Anyway I'll butt out of commenting on here , I apologise for not having a profile or username, I don't tend to register anywhere other than the basics where I have friends.

Again I apologise and I'll just read comments, take care all and stay safe

Shui8, 31 Mar 2020Mate 20 series are the first phone puts on the 'Super Macro' mod... moreThat's not a macro camera. It's just a feature.
Also isn't it obvious that main camera's close-up shots will be more detailed than 2MP macro cameras out there ?
I can confidently say that S20 ultra's 108MP close-up shots can capture more details than any macro camera (or macro claim feature you mentioned) available in the market.

Anonymous, 31 Mar 2020Did I say I wanted to know how to make a smartphone, all I said... moreYou certainly know Cameras better than Smartphone. The way you talk proves it.
I think you know simple things about smartphones.
Like the main sensor has around 25mm focal length and it's not changeable like camera.
Now how can you make the main sensor better for macro photography ? Just tell me this.

For your information. I wasn't explaining her how macro photography works. She was wondering why Note 10's macro image is better than the P40 pro. I answered to that question.
I kinda hate to reply to guys like you who has no name and came into the middle of a conversation without knowing initial topic and then comment irrationally just to show how knowledgeable they are.

Morsel, 31 Mar 2020According to my knowledge there is no flagship with a macro came... moreMate 20 series are the first phone puts on the 'Super Macro' mod on its UWA lens, close to 2.5cm, continued with P30 series. The quality is high though, especially when using the x2/x3/x5 toggle. Oneplus 7t use the same method afterwards. The so dedicated 'macro' lens on other brands is just pure BS using 2-5mp along with abysmal quality.

Sadly Huawei ditch it as its newer UWA starting Mate 30 series using those Cine Lens thats focus on video.

Emeline Shaw, 31 Mar 2020Can you elaborate more on this? The user "Morsel" just wrote ... moreIf the lenses used were better equipped to resolve the full detail that the sensor could handle I don't see why a larger sensor can't be good for macro .
I'm no longer a Huawei owner since the p20 pro , which was a sack of poo.

vrvly, 31 Mar 2020Any better candidate?I don't know the cameras with smaller sensors than micro 4:3 , maybe those sony things with the 1inch sensor ?? Cant think of the actual model but it's a prosumer compact I think , rx something.
I actually liked the sony alpha my brother got but I'd never move from Nikon and Canon myself as I prefer their lenses

I know more about cameras than smartphones, but then again I would use a smartphone for anything other than a throwaway snap for social media
