Motorola razr xt910 and atrix has used pentile matrix since they were launched. GsmArena always blame that it is not as good as rgb. Now? "Pentile matrix is more reliable than rgb.." GsmArena team and samsung must sorry about this. Motorola hardware always on top. Instead their lack support of android services, they made a good and reliable phone.

well s3 should have longer life before burnin sets in as it has the feature that dimms the screen when you are not looking at it

I just can not understand all this fuss with the PenTile screen! Super AMOLED technology is fantastic and HD Amoled is still better. Really suberbo! Arent you being too picky, with something that we can only see with microscopic magnification?! This screen is fantastic, with vibrant colors, super sharp and crisp, and contrast like no other! Not even to mention the true blacks it produces! So forget the PenTile, (because you guys will not even see it), and enjoy this beautiful screen and mobile phone!

Well, there we have it. 2 and a half year span for ur precious galaxy. The good news is am a sony and apple fan, the bad news is am sorry for samsung fans.

OLED pixel colours appear correct and unshifted, even as the viewing angle approaches 90° from normal.
Viewing angles are better on OLED than LCD. Less prone to colour shifts.

Degradation would be more noticable in comparison to a Pentile RGBG screen, where the blue LEDs makes up a smaller proportion of the display.

I guess you are talking about color ... moreHi blueglue, actually Amoled screens are very prone to color shifts when viewed at an angle, but are good with color saturation and outdoor visibility.
When talking about the burn-in issue, LCDs are actually more durable than Amoleds. In real-world use, I haven't encountered an LCD screen that has burn-in or any other type of screen degradation - even my 9-year old pocket pc still has the same screen since day 1. On the other hand, I've seen a 1-month old Galaxy Note that has the clock and dock app icons permanently burned in. Galaxy Nexus owners are complaining about burn-in. Both Gnex and Gnote use Pentile Amoled HD, what's to prevent the SGS3 from the same fate?
By the way, I'm all for the SGS3 had it not sport an Amoled screen. Looks like I'll be going for the Optimus 4x.

Thats like selling a luxury car, that praises being light weight and uses recyclable materials on the interior?

I just think that this is part of the truth. One reason is that they are not able to manufacture a RGB-stripe OLED with that high PPI. I'm pretty sure that their aim was to come with Super AMOLED plus but failed and needed to go with the same technology as Galaxy SII.

I guess you are talking about color rendition, its the sole advantage of any super amoled. with wide view angle and no color loss or color shift.
burn in /ghosting are one and same, dont know why you have use synonyms to elevate the issue , it might confuse readers.
Burn in not bound to happen soon, thats the info this thread speaks. LCDs are not spared by burn in. Infact than regular LCD, Super AMOLED is more durable because of the subpixel layout.
With an appropriate Screen res like the gs3 and note, one can never distinguish the pentile nature of the screen.
i like super amoled for the fact that it
- consumes less power than RGB lcd
- has no color shift at any view angles
- bright and vivid color (white is not absolutely white at time, but its not too evident)
- outdoor visibility

Well, Samsung only talked about the problems of the SGsI screen after the SGSII had come, they only let us know about problems with this after the SGSIII as been announced so I bet when they launch an SGSIV they will say «sorry for those who bought the previous but your screen isn't that good and we knew it»
Bottom line, if you buy Samsung you will get screwed sooner or latter.

Amoled Pentile looks bad to me, every single Amoled Pentile display I saw so far had some strange bleeding and uniformity. I think it's a bad idea, I wont buy any Amoled Pentile screens for good.

well if even s3 is gonna suffer under burn in i can reduce it by using this free theme (Wood Theme GO Launcher EX) on the phone and having main screen empty. the green color around text on image is not present on my phone with this theme.
