Phone with 192MP camera and Snapdragon 765G chipset coming next month

07 April 2020
A mid-ranger phone getting the highest resolution sensor ever? Why not, the Mi Note 10 was the first to go north of 100MP and it had the 730G chip.

Super-high resolution Bayer sensors (not Quad Bayer) like the 64 megapixel sensor of the Galaxy S20 are the future. They allow continuous (!) high quality zooming and high resolution landscape photos. A 52mm equivalent 12 megapixel camera doesn't have the same potential as a 28mm equivalent 64 megapixel Bayer camera.

More than 1s is too much for OIS to handle body shaking.
OIS does not help with video, EIS does.

24MP FF will never give better photo than a 45MP one.
And the 45MP is weaker than 60MP.

Problem is tests of cellphones are done wrongly. Auto mode should never be used because settings are different.

Also is stupid to test different sensors sizes. Doing 1/2.6" vs 1/1.2" is like doing APSC x FF.

I have a Nokia 808 Pureview in very good condition. This phone has the largest sensor at 1/1.2" and 41 MP Carl Zeiss Optics. Still it takes great looking photos with reasonable size (MB) in full resolution (38 MP 4:3). I Love My Nokia 808 PureView. It takes better photos than most budget and mid range phones having multiple cameras. I also used phones with multiple cameras with 48 MP & 64 MP being the primary sensors using pixel binning technology, I got say I'm not that impressed with the photos taken using these huge megapixels in either binned or full resolution and feel Nokia 808 is still in its own class.

                Then you add :

                - cost to bring pieces to another location and import taxes
                - software cost
                - employees costs
                - tests
                - certifications and licesing of tech
                - R/D, marketing, transport of retail devices, import taxes of the devices etc ...

SD865 cost $160. The S20 Ultra screen must be near $90.

If you out the best pieces out there,no OEM will be able to sell for less than $1000.

This is getting stupid now. 192MP is ridiculous. The software is more important. Megapixels on their own are meaningless and that's something we found out years ago (see original Google Pixel)

The 1" sensor will make phone sacrifice design. Do they want it?

1" is more than 50% larger than 1/1.33" from Samsung. Will the phones have space enough for ultra wide, "telephoto" and ToF?

Bigger sensor = bigger /thicker lenses + more heat + more power used + slower readout + higher manufacturing price(more silicon wasted during process).

Anonymous, 07 Apr 2020Are there any APSC sensors in a compact body of smartphones... moreYou don't get my main point right from the start.
APS-C or any other large sensor digital cameras have larger sensor surface area to make use of higher resolution sensor, but instead of doing so, they'd rather stick with normal bayer 12 to 42 MP sensors and perform basic image processings, and the results are extremely good.
Phones are already limited by the maximum sensor size allowed to fit inside their small bodies, so having even more pixels compressed in a smaller sensor would actually yield even worse results as compared to lower resolution proper digital cameras due to less light being captured by individual pixels.
192MP at 1" sensor surface area? That would mean extremely noisy daylight images even in bright sunlight, or maybe perform extreme noise reduction and take away a large chonk of detail. Let's just not imagine its low light capabilities - it won't even be capable at all in that case.

The simple thing is, we don't need to race to higher megapixel when even proper digital cameras themselves aren't competing for the highest megapixels. I'd take a 2MP sensor that comes close to a proper DSLR quality over a 192MP with vintage camera quality any time of the day.
