Don Hrle, 19 Apr 2020In EU S20 line is utterly inferior to the Oneplus 8 seriesIn Europe this year it seems that all deals are very bad. Samsung comes with the bad Exynos, Xiaomi is expensive, now OnePlus 8 Pro followed the same path. Taking into consideration the crisis, I am not buying any phone. Staying with my S8+ till maybe iPhone 12 offers OLED screen or Samsung comes with a good Exynos.

When 1+ again competes price-wise, has a smaller, flat screen and better cameras let me know and I will buy one.

I had intended to buy the 8 but was completely let down.

If this development carries on with price tags little below 1000 EUR or easy above for 2020 flagships and especially for Pro models i will take a closer look at some older models i´ve been monitoring and will buy a used phone on the secondary market or with a monthly plan at a carrier store. I have the Huawei P30 Pro and Samsung S10/S10 Pro as well as the Note10/+ on my watchlist. Specs for all these phones are good enough for me.

oneplus meant value for money...now it is not. for me these seem overpriced. in India though you can get realme x50 pro at a cheaper price point and realme os seems to be alternate for oxygen os. if realme can give a camera experience near to oneplus, there is no point in even buying the oneplus 8 series.

The thing is the camera department is absolute downgrade from last year and find x2 is clearly the reason because bkk probably look at find x sale figure
but the thing is instead of 2 useless camera they should have just put last year telephoto lens
that wouldnt cost more and is inferior to find x2 pro

jay9783, 19 Apr 2020where is the 'not interested to buy option' ? its too ex... moreQuote, "...s20 series are way better and note10s too. they don't have much to give this time around except 120hz screen...

I can only assume you believe the Galaxy S20 Series is better because it uses the Exynos SoC. On the contrary, the Exynos is just a tad better performance-wise over a SD735.

Concerning your incorrect belief the OnePlus 8 Pro only has the 120Hz display to account for itself in this iteration is wholly wrong. Obviously you are either ill-informed or have been misinformed about the huge swathes of improvements to the Series 8.

I have posted a comment within this article's comment that highlight the Series 8 improvements and advantages over all other smartphones. It may well sway your wrongly-held view of the OnePlus 8 Pro.

The commentariat thus far are critical of the allegedly "poor" camera in the OnePlus Pro 8, as if they assume expertise on all things optics-related. I'd be much inclined to wait for a true professional's verdict on the camera before passing judgement.

With all the negative comments focussed on the camera setup, the absence of praise for the OnePlus 8 series display is indicative this leading-edge feature appears to have gone unnoticed. Quite simply the display is the World's best, for no other phone has a better display. It has achieved thirteen individual World's first for its par excellence display.

When one considers the OnePlus 8 Pro as a whole, it will be self-evident that it commands the best currently available spec, including: display (colour consistency, colour fidelity, native colour gamut, contrast ratio, screen reflectance, full screen brightness, image contrast and intensity, etc), LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1, USB 3.1, dual-SIM, 865 SoC, X55 5G, IP 68, and in-display fingerprint sensor.

The battery capacity at 4510 mAh ensures the OnePlus 8 Pro holds the number two spot for the beefiest battery capacity amongst all the flagship-featured phones. Only the ASUS Zenfone 6 (SD855) beats it with a 5000 mAh battery.

The fast-charge rate of 30 W (both wired and wireless) is only bettered by seven SD865 SoC-equipped (or equivalent/better) phones (result obtained via GSMarena's Phone Finder service), in which neither the Galaxy 20 Series or iPhone 11 Series phones appears.

The only aspects that have yet to be analysed for superiority are the sound quality and camera output. I'll await the professional experts to draw conclusions on these two features.

Through objective analysis of the OnePlus 8 Pro, leaving aside one's prejudices and iPhone/Samsung fanboism, it is evident the OnePlus 8 Pro has flagship specs in almost every aspect, and at least a couple hundred dollars less than other flagships (which have lower spec than the OnePlus 8 Pro).

The OnePlus 8 Pro is a beast of a phone. If one requires and demands the flagship specs it offers (the Fakebook, Snotchat, and Instagratification generation need not bother), then the OnePlus 8 Pro will pay for itself over its lifespan (say, three years).

Disclaimer about me: I have never owned a OnePlus nor associated with OnePlus in any way. Just laying down the facts as they are presented in reality, setting aside emotion, preconceived ideas, and opinionated online reviews.

Since oneplus 1 to 8, oneplus has always increased their prices of their phones year in year out, always between 50 - 100.

Why did people think it wasn't going to be increase?

Hell oneplus 9 would be in the same price category as APPLE and SAMSUNG next year.

I think the author doesn't deserve the negative comments. It doesn't seem to be a pro OP opinion article, since it says the regula op8 is in a difficult position.
I welcome these opinion based articles which are quite fashionable in western journalism, as long as they are balanced. And in my view it seems a decent honest opinion.

Almost 100% of carriers' sales are Apple and Samsung and that's how most people in the US buy their phones. When you look at the price cuts offered that way, it's hard for anybody else to succeed as "way cheaper, but almost as good" since they often cost more than discounted Samsungs.

Unfortunately, the only way to make it in the US is to show you're outright better than everybody else and OnePlus is on the right path.

Thing is...it is too expensive, at least for me.
I'm not willing to pay that much for a phone, although I do earn more than enough....I just have other priorities in life.
                                        S
But then, same goes for Samsung's S20 line, Huawei is not cheaper...I guess it is a huge bet on their side that there is so many people paying 1000€ for a phone.
I could understand people willing to pay for Galaxy Note line that much...but S line was phone for masses, and now it's not.
                                        Neater Oneplus 8 is.

If they expect to sell more than Oneplus 7, they are wrong.
But, what goes on their side is that there is no much competition...US have their own S20 line, and now, just 2 months after sales started, it cost as much or even cheaper than Oneplus 8 and 8pro. But rest of the world don't get that much love from Samsung.
We still need to pay those introducing prices, and in same time we are getting underperforming devices in return.
LG V60 have good value for price ratio, but it's not for everyone.
HUAWEI is gone, so there is a huge whole to fill up right now at European, middle eastern and Asian markets, but I don't believe Oneplus will take it.
It's more like, people will wait for another year...at least I will.
And if in meantime I have to buy a new device, it will be an iPhone SE...
