Mike9625, 21 Apr 2020Just one thing to destroy your whole argument, and is playi... moreExcept that youtube video being basically 16/9 and most modern smartphone display being taller (wider in landscape mode) your counter argument is invalid, you need to actually zoom the video yourself to make it appear at the level of the notch, which make you loose top and bottom part of the video.
You can see it here :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKGheWx51Aw

Plus, you'll always have something around your display, black bar because of the difference in aspect ration > bezel > the universe...
Except if you are in a VR headset with ultrawide field of view and with a 360° content, you can't have something around your video, but still, every 16/9 video won't be able to reach the notch even if you zoom, only wide media like cinema version (like in this video) who are by far no the most common type of media will have the notch in them, and only if you zoom.

RickyBoy, 21 Apr 2020Oh apple. Still clinging to the past. You'd think with all ... moreIf it's that easy, then you do it! Android nerds love talking a lot of smack without knowing all the facts and reasons. Do you even know why Apple still uses Face ID? Just stick to cheap specs and useless Android features lol.

Apple is going the Blackberry way. Lack of ideas and innovatios. Till now they arr not able to get rid of that ugly notch. What a shame.

VS3, 21 Apr 2020Well here are some counter points: 1. Apple did not choo... moreThanks you a lot for being the only person which, yesterday/this night, was respectful, polite and exposed real arguments without requiring to personal attack, you are a respectful person !

        1. To answer you, well, from what I've seen, except the carrier name (which is long) as shown here :
        https://miro.medium.com/max/1114/1*XJro6ujERnKVXIcDVXy6kw.png
I thought no status icon are really missing compared to previous version, after some researches apparently some useful ones (like bluetooth for example) can't be displayed anymore, this will thankfully be fixed with the new smaller notch.
        As being seen here :
        https://blog.oursky.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Screen-Shot-2017-11-02-at-12.06.54-PM.png
The strange thing is, with the additional vertical space, they could have made two lines of statut icons, which would had fixed this.

        2. I didn't knew that some apps had issues with the notch, I mean, that is a bad implementation rather than the notch itself, because the notched version of iPhone have taller display, there is no need for apps, fullscreen or not to access the part around the notch, Apple did a fail at this one.

        3. I think we got all mixed up here.
And I just found out that actually iOS doesn't leave option to disable it, the user need to do it himself through app and manipulations.
In all screenshots of iPhone X I saw, disabled notch still have its status bar around the display, it only make the part of the display around the notch non accessible except for the status bar, doing this :
        https://www.todaystechlog.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/remove-notch-Notch-remover-app-10.jpg
On Android all disabled notch version I ever saw, when disabling it, the status/notification bar get pushed out of this area, like this :
        https://cdn.theunlockr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/No-Notch.jpg
BUT, there is a difference between hiding and disabling the notch, hiding just make its background appear black but nothing else, disabling make it no more accessible and it is an Android 10 thing, before that, apparently it was only hidden.
So the comparaison doesn't apply between Android and iOS, I wa wrong.
Though I tried a lot of time to find a way to disable the notch so the statut/notification were still showing around it but no content accessed it...

Oh apple. Still clinging to the past. You'd think with all the money they charge for their phones, they'd be able to RnD under display face unlock technology

I own both Android and iPhone so I can tell the difference. Notch in Androids are just for aesthetics. Punch hole is also for aesthetics heheh

Anonymous, 21 Apr 2020"Just look at Samsung S20 with $100 price increase and 120H... moreActually, I can't really say iPhones are that special, especially with some outdated specs (ex. 18W only charging), but at least quality is above expectations and iOS is something.

Why don't they just go and follow the design of Xperia?? Small bezels are better than bholes and notches.

Anonymous, 21 Apr 2020But it's too slow to competeI disagree. Android is full of great innovative attempts at stuff, but that is not what I'm after. I just want a device that gets the key areas right. Camera, battery screen, form factor, speed. I'm impressed with attempts at crazy zoom, but have little use for it. Moon pictures, not for me. Soli radar, no thanks, unless everything else is covered. Curved edges, nope, bad design. Android throws a lot of stuff at users, as each company has a need to carve out their niche, to out do the competition. The issue with Android is the spec numbers war, and the need to be different. Apple only has to best what they did the year before. And, many years they are not the device Id choose. But the 11 Pro is a box ticking beaut. It took time, and I was all in on Windows Phone, nothing Apple did was compelling to me. The slowly improved though. No they don't have the ability to photo the dark side of the moon, but I don't need that.

Davy Jones, 21 Apr 2020Totally agree with that even though the prices were ridicul... moreYep, I have not been an Apple fan. In my house, everyone knows that Apple are a brand I don't give a lot of time for. But I like to give credit. I thought the 4s was great looking at the time, but as the years rolled, I thought that Apple had really poor devices. Terrible batteries, and weak builds. Their proprietary practices are still not great, but their devices now are.

VS3, 21 Apr 2020Well here are some counter points: 1. Apple did not choo... moreWell some counter-counterpoints:

                              1. Apple never had a very populated Status bar even in the pre iphone x era.

                              2. IPhone has a notch coz for symmetry purpose as it has equal bezel on all sides. Android phones never had equal equal bezels so having a notch pointless. Pixel4 series and new Xperias don't have a notch.

                              3. IOS doesn't have any notch disabling features builtin. It started and ended with Android.

Good that they reduced the size of that huge notch and the bezels. Also wish Apple put a good 1080p display on their base model. How long they persist with that crappy 326ppi screen even in these days?
