Samsung to deliver a 250MP sensor

29 April 2020
It would be even bigger than the current 108MP nona-cell sensor in the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

All Ss sensors are copies from the top line of Sony's photo department in the idea of being integrated in a smartphone. But gimmicks and copy-cat-lame efforts will be the *happy toys in the sand* for the *I don't know what that mean* fans and that it's a shame!

You're right. It's worse in most situations.

Anonymous, 30 Apr 2020Samsung is going to use it for better digital zooming.I don't think they will (or can).

And who said all phones need Samsung to survive? iPhone 11 has zero Samsung components (Sony camera sensor, Japanese-made display) and yet sells a lot.

can we not focus on increasing the sensor size instead of all these pointless megapixel races? given the size of the module on the back of the S20 ultra, could a 1" sensor with a periscope style lens not be used instead? focus on serious processing algorithms and bring in real PRO controls, even if the thickness has to increase slightly, which in turn would allow a bigger battery? if that camera was built properly and better processing algorithms it could be a serious piece of kit

Once you've hit the optical limit of the tiny lens, which is trivial, more pixels hurts the image. It's more interruptions in the light collection area, more wires, more electrical load per signal, more defects, and more signal crosstalk.

The only way a 250 MP sensor could be useful is if it's crazy huge and coupled with an equally huge array of smaller lenses to light it all up. The processing on that would be difficult and I'm not sure Samsung could manage it. Sony, maybe, but Samsung has a really hard time just getting basic phone features working.

And the quality will be shitty like their 108 sensor

this had better come with 25-1 binning or something. Quinvigintacell sensor. Haha. Even if it's a Nonacell, I have no use for 27MP grainy images. 10MP images would be fine, though.

Honestly, I prefer to have 12mp with OIS, eis, excellent lenses and a proper software to squeeze everything from that sensor.

the next note is going to have 150 MP camera? number dont mean much if the performance is not on par .. I thought that samsung will furnish the 108mp sensor in the coming devices .. like how they did with the 12 mp sensor from s8 to note 9 .. have been a Samsung user for the past 6 years .. currently using the note 9 .. my friend who uses iphone xs max says my phone takes better pictures. but s20 ultra disappointed even with all the big numbers in camera department .. look forward to seeing better use of the hardware through software .. like how apple did with the 11 pro max ..
