Always knew they collect too much data, its China after all, and i bet if PPL dig around their security APP something will be found, it has a ton of suspicious permissions.
that said i love xiaomi phones, and my mi 9t pro, but also love custom roms.

    no miui for me

Its time we stop using technology and go back to the cave ways, because every fvcking tech company collect our data. Facebook and Apple are worst.

This shouldn't be a surprise news. Forbes, an America website. Rubbish.

Every other switch before that one doesn't give you a warning. Pretty shady.

Strange how people get upset about this, but completely ignore the fact that Google collects even more information on you from ANY Android phone you use.

Google have even admitted that they track your position when you turn position off -- the setting only applies to apps, not built-in data collection in Android itself.

What do you expect? It's a Chinese phone, you think the US is using it to spy on you instead? People need to be on jail for this. These are crimes committed on foreign soil where their own jurisdiction applies and expeditions from third party country's can be had, and prosecutions at the home country. People in the offending countries can progressively get trapped there, and get arrested for going outside of the country, maybe even in teir province because of crimes in other pro. They can wait there for them r own national government to decide to arrest or deport then on a whim over the decades.

The anonymization is easy to figure re our which you are. Your account and advertising ID and cookies are being transmitted. The company receiving it knows exactly who you are to profile you, before they need to anonyminise. They can work out who you are by the pages you visit, how you type, etc You are the only person in a articular area with your chacteristics likely, even hardware, maybe even app lineup and folder structure.

I had a Chinese phone years ago, that ran hot and the battery drained really fast while it was very slow. I figured they were streaming the video camera. With better chips today and bigger batteries, how would you know if they were doing it on a flagship phone? There is so much rubbish running on them in the background, that maybe should not be transmitting your data, it's hard to tell.

NotAnOpinion, 01 May 2020I assume that you are saying, you do not use Android, MS or... moreYou assume wrong.
I using Microsoft products, software (since 2005), iOS? Not right now. I'm in Android world (to)long i guess, because i know that "Android" on a Pixel device and on a Samsing Galaxy )x) device is no a same. Same goes for custom skins vs stock skon or roms. Did you know that EMUI is based on a MIUO source code? Did you know that i if a have any Android phone (with custom UI), first rhing i do i delete OEMs browser, because it's a Android phone, right? Chrome is there on every single Android mobile devices (-Huawei-Honor:). So Chrome is kore than enough.
Also, about this brand you talk about (Xiaomi). Do you know that is you are in EU (because in the USA Xiaomi is not offically available)_ you have options in MIUI to tirn off recomandations, and there is no a single 'ad' from system based app, but if you set region to India (or if you are in India), there is a even in "settings" system app of MIUI so!ething like follow as on fb, tw.. That's a difference, so maybe we are not from a same continent. Also in EULA in every phone that is sold in EU, they say that will collect data etc, but i understand it is to long to read those stuff..
In my opinion, only problem with (new) Xiaomi devices is, design, tickness (in low end and mid models), quality of those (IPS) screens, and not if they collect data from their browser (you have in MIauI MSA system based app, that is on by default), so like i wrote erlier, MIUI is for advanced users of Android mobile os, for those who want to explore new ways to get a some of the options, it's like 90% differente rhan stock Android (9 or 10), and sure is not for those users, and vice versa.
I have now Samsung Galaxy S20 (regular one)_ it's a good phone great screen, not to heavy, not to tgick, it's a compact, and have (Windows 10 like), ONE UI 2.1, also not bad, but that is not a reason to write nonsense about (only one) brand in this case Xiaomi..
Do i geting better in language or what? Haha :D

Anonymous, 01 May 2020I don't care about this type of news anymore. Everyone spy ... moreI remember, EA games had made a similar statement when it came to gamers displeasure about Battlefield 5 debacle -- "If you don't like the creative decisions that went into the game, you don't have to buy it"

Gamers were extremely PO from that weak / arrogant statement from Patrick Soderlund. Not far from that ridiculous statement, he left (FIRED) EA games.

The consumers will always win and companies like EA, Xiaomi, HTC, BlackBerry, etc. they all come a dime-adozen

I wish I had seen this before I purchased my Mi Note 10.

I use DuckDuckGo precisely because I don't want my personal information to be tracked by Chinese companies which don't comply with Western privacy standards. But if Xiaomi still tracks me, without my consent and without disclosing it, it's a real problem for me and it should be for anyone else.
