No one, no phone companies can say that they don't track you because all of them do. Apple, Samsung, all Chinese brand, all phones with Google, all phones with iOS, all of them track you. Don't be illusional about any brand.
The moment you're on the internet, the moment you use smartphones, you give up your privacy.
Get real, and deal with it.

Ridiclous xiaomi fans defending their beloved xiaomi. Have fun with your data stored in china and russia.
You should know that when a phone is too cheap for the features, something feels suspicous.
You will say that google does that too. At least they can be avoided, you can simply disable activity in your account, use anti tracker in your browser so no one can track you.

They think this manual task would take too much time. When in reality, all this data is fed to an AI engine which spits out the required queries, stats, etc.
Companies taking advantage of the ignorance of these ppl.

Anyone who thinks their online activity is private is delusional or ignorant. Just like what the other commenters say - almost all tech companies are doing this. I even have to delete facebook and instagram apps because of the customized ads. I guess Xiaomi slowly eating some fruit's market share is making a lot of people nervous.
Its just too easy to spread xenophobia nowadays. Cant beat them, then drag them down.
If you dont want to be tracked then stop using your smartphone, your smart tv, your laptop. Live in a jungle stop using electricity.

nahh ... it nothing new... if you want a privacy ... then go live your life in the cave somewhere... dont use any electronic devices or any device with internet connection. .
btw, from who the researcher brought the devices from ? local xiaomi store or 3rd parties seller? if you got device from 3rd parties, then the probability is high that xiaomi collect the data especially if the devices he use is intended to be sold in china..
im as a user is well aware that huawei and xioami send my data back to their server ... that why if possible dont keep your sensitive data or access any sensitive data on your personal phone especially if you work with local government agency.
