Domestoboto, 02 May 2020I think the OP price hike is deliberate. BBK can't have the... moreThat's also the standard Chinese brand strategy to penetrate a market, they initially put aggressively low price until their product get enough popularity and customers, then they increase the price to finally match what is already made by those who were initially there, but they stay on the market and they can now make tons of profits.
Same if one brand is used to have low selling price but many other brands come with a higher price, they will increase their own to match the tendency, simply because they can...

OnePlus was really popular, it was one of the first Chinese brand to get popular in Western markets, it builded such a hype and loyal fan-base and everyone kept wanting to buy their phone, at least on the peoples who knew this brand...
The OnePlus 5 is the last where the price were really affordable.
The OnePlus 6 was the last flagship killer, but it was almost flagship priced.
The OnePlus 7 was a great phone by itself but its price was quite high.
But the OnePlus 8 is now more expensive than most other flagships, but they didn't really made it as a flagship but kept making flagship killer quality, and its features are quite dull compared to the competition, it have some good one, but in general, many other phones do better for less selling price.

So OnePlus did a terrible mistake at being greedy, would they not started doing anti-consumer things and kept making their usual feature and quality to price ratio, they would have had way more success and gain more profits to the volume rather than sheer margin...

Syn, 02 May 2020Huh? Last year Samsung's ultrasonic readies were plagued by... moreWow, I stop you right there !
This is exactly the kind of misinformation I fight against.
Your facts are so backward and wrong it look like you tried to change every arguments against this tech.

Now lets see what are the real facts :
First, there is no "3D ultra sonic", there are two sensors using ultrasonic (not "ultra sonic"), both by Qualcomm, the first one being called "3D Sonic" the second "3D Sonic Max", despite their name, they are totally different, the second one being a totally upgraded and second generation that not a single phone yet use it.

The "3D Sonic" underdisplay ultrasonic fingerprint scanner which is implemented on the Samsung Galaxy S10, Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note10 lineups work really well on hardware level, the issue come from software, it is way harder to manipulate sound wave than an image on visible wavelengths.

By the way most of the issues this sensor suffered are now fixed, including the screen protector issue, that you got completely wrong.

The screen protector issue is actually an issue where cheap one simply were bad enough so when you press your finger against them, you leave a fingerprint, physically, in 3D inside them, and the 3D Sonic and 3D Sonic Max being "3D" as their name imply, they read fingerprint in 3 dimensions, so they initially got fooled by what is a 3D recreation of one's fingerprint, literally the sensor suffered from being too good.

Now lets see what real advantages ultrasonic and 3D reading fingerprint scanner have over optical (visible or IR) and capacitive fingerprint scanners :

*They read in 3D, the issue the 3D Sonic suffered is the same as what an optical one suffer if you take the fingerprint of someone off of a glass or somewhere else, here you need to reproduce it in 3D, which require already more means.
Update making sure this kind of tricks isn't possible anymore is even more efficient with the 3D Sonic Max because it have higher precision.

*This technology can allow for way more resolution than other tech, all smartphone fingerprint have a 50,000 to 1 chances that someone else match your fingerprint enough so he can unlock your phone, the 3D Sonic Max is capable of reducing the odds to 1,000,000 to 1 chances.

*The 3D Sonic Max is able to read a large area, meaning it can read more of your fingerprint at once, making it more secure, but also more convenient, as you don't need to look at where you place your finger, and it is the real first step toward a fullscreen underdisplay fingerprint scanner.

*Also because of the larger area, it allow for authentification using two finger at once, which exponentially increase security.

*The 3D Sonic Max is powerful enough to penetrate 5mm inside the finger, which is almost half a finger, this is good enough to do many things, one of witch is to gather your heartbeat, both being useful as a heart rate monitor and to check there is blood flowing/beating in your finger, making fake finger really hard to fool.

Now lets see what can also be done using AI :

Getting a map of the blood veins, which is, as fingerprint, a really different thing from individuals, being in 3 dimensions, they might be actually more important than the fingerprint itself, though we can only gather so much data, an AI can do an incredible job at finding those.

Ultrasound give the density of the material they bounce off, that's the base of medical ultrasound.
Using this property, we can check that the fingerprint and the finger that goes with it are actually having a density of a human skin and flesh, seriously upgrading the security way past what what optical and capacitive are able to.

Also reading density, we can check that the liquid flowing in the veins have the density of blood.

And last with the density, we can check that the Distal Phalanx density is indeed matching density of bones.

5mm is more than enough to get a precise enough map of the Distal Phalanx, whose shape can be more or less different depend on the person, making it a valid secondary biometric data, making the whole authentification even stronger.

Ultrasonic FPS can be quite fast, the "tap" method is preferred and most peoples just press their fingers which mean it won't work as intended.

Another great thing that can be done, we could theoretically make it work through gloves.

This tech IS and MUST BE the future as it is way better than optical and capacitive, and it is not because the very first one HAD some issues, that the whole tech is bad, so please quit spreading misconceptions.

But to care about the height? The least important thing to care about when considering the size? And to care about it more than the thickness and width? I really don't understand you people.

Ah great so it's gonna be underpowered trash eh. Absolute garbage.

Awww that's a shame, I'm actually interested with the Mediatek Dimensity 1000 and 1000L. As far as I can remember, only Planet Computers Astro Slide 5G and Oppo Reno3 5G use either those chipsets.

Big disapointd for me, i still dont knw why not any phone available with D1000 (not D1000L) till now, & many people say mediatek is bad but i dont think so, everyone talking about mediatek not supporting custom ROM.now tell me how many people are using customs ROMs in their phone? Be practicle yar, Deminsity 1000L are much more powerfull thn so called SD765G, it seems One Plus should change their name cz at early time OnePlus was Flagship killer but now days OnePlus becoming wallet killer.

And the price will be 500$$$..How funny 😀😀😀😀

One Plus, knowing what everybody knows now (with Apple changing the mid-range price market), they will not price this phone above 400$. Probably that's why they choose SD765.
Every company willing to release a good mid-range phone in late 2020-early 2021 will need to take into consideration this 400$ price tag, is like an imaginary line which shouldn't be crossed.
Is like what Apple always do. Everybody laughs at Apple, but in the end everybody is implementing their strategy or features (see removing of the 3.5mm jack, or gesture control, notch, etc.). Now, with the introducing of iphone SE 2020 (a mid-range phone by all means), companies need to be aware also of price, in mid-range area.

You know, if the price ends up being significantly lower because of a weaker SoC, then it might not matter that much.

Also, if a company uses Snapdragon chipsets exclusively (and brags about it), I don't think that they would suddenly switch suppliers like that, build a new phone and then wait for Qualcomm to come up with a better offer. So, in my opinion, the chipset has nothing to do with the delay.
