Samsung could triple it sales if it provided 5 years of software updates people are getting tired of changing phones with no real upgrades they need to provide long battery life

This was expected, as they gave an update march the 16. and a new one as quick as March 31. That was a big hint that it now will be Apr/Jul/Oct/Jan only

After more than 5 years I spent a lot less to upgrade iPhones than my wife and in my opinion it is because 2-3 years y.o. iPhone is still good and some people just want to have iPhone but can't buy brand new device.
Android after 2-3 years is just a brick. It can work etc. but you have to sell it cheap to have someone interested in that brick.

abigfanoftechs, 04 May 2020You're speaking to an ex-owner of the Galaxy S5 & S7. I... moreIf the most important thing is software or you want to keep your phone for more than 3 years, yeah the iphone is pretty much the only way to go.
I had an iphone 8 plus for about 4 months. I can surely say that it was the best phone I ever had (software and performance wise). The most useless and boring too. The battery was charging in 2 hours. I literally spent half of day to copy my music from my old Android phone (a S9+ at that time) to my windows laptop and then to my iphone (because why not). And other small things that irritated me (not software things, but day to day usage things).
The day I sold my iphone, I realize that software is not that important to me, battery life and battery charging time, flexibility of the device, simplicity in using the phone with other non Apple devices, DESIGN, are more important things to me.
So yeah, if I had to pick from an iphone and any other Android phone/company, I will go with Android. And I am pretty sure, other people think the same.

Drainer, 04 May 2020No it's a weak poin event if you are changing devices often... moreSo don't buy a 800EUR phone. Buy a 300EUR one, sell it after 1-1.5 years with 100EUR.
This is what I was talking about in the first place. You lose "only" 200EUR, not 650EUR, and you still get the latest software each time, being that even the lowest Android phone will get Android updates for 1 year.
The problem with the iphones is that they are very expensive. Even if you lose "only" 50% of its value after 2 years, is still much. I mean, 50% from 1000EUR is 500EUR.
The thing is simple, the more expensive the gadget is, the more money you will lose (no matter the brand). And if you hang on to the phone for more than 2 years, then other things will come into discussion (the battery wears off, the design is outdated, you get bored looking/using at the same device, etc.).

Adam, 04 May 2020Secure patches are always every three months since I bought... moreThere are only 3 companies that provide 4 year security updates for their phones Google, oneplus and Samsung. Even OEM's that do android one phones usually stop after 3 years (Motorola even sooner). So if you really need the latest OS on your phone just get an iPhone. Also the average consumer doesn't care about software most of them don't even know what their OS is called.

Such good service. My unlocked S9+ has been getting 1 to 3 updates a year since it was new.
